Bedroom Decorating Ideas Please

I am not sure of colours/ patterns for curtains and blinds, lampshades etc. Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you

Are you keeping the bed? If you are then I would start looking in houzz bedroom photo's for inspiration. Write a list about what you like and what you don't. The window needs covering too probably a blind as I am no fan of shortie curtains and I see you have a radiator underneath it. Get a clear idea of the daylight too and where it falls. First define your taste. What colours do you like? Do you like pattern or plain? What sort of feeling would you like in your bedroom? You have large wardrobes so you should be able to keep it very calm and relaxed with no clutter. I would need to know more about your likes and dislikes to make any useful suggestions.

You have a very neutral base, so you could up the textures or up the colour.

i would have an interlined roman blind….either in a neutral ….or a ’to die for’ fabric that you could then take your direction from for duvet and lamps.

if you go neutral on the blind…say a linen in the wall colour with a trim in the bedhead colour or black, you could then have duvets to reflect the seasons and add colour. Matthew williamson for john lewis is a favourite for me …in red or coral ….

Will you be working from this room? …maybe calmimg or vibrant colours will be important

At the risk of contradicting previous advice, warm colours suit a dark and north facing room much better. If you are set on blue, then I would go with a rich dark blue - Stiffkey has been mentioned and it is an awesome shade. You could then do the paintwork to co-ordinate with the wardrobes to tie them in, and use patterned or textured soft furnishings as a bridge between the two colours. Embracing the fact that the room is dark rather than fighting it gives you the chance to make it a cosy nest, with plenty of texture to break up big blocks of colour and make it even more warm. A blackout blind and soft full patterned drapes will get around the radiator under the window issue and add more interest. I see you have metallic lamps - more metallics and and clever use of mirrors will help reflect any light you do have in the day, and your low level lamps will help make it warm and intimate at night with reading light as a bonus. Clara, There is lots to consider when decorating a room or deciding on colour. The number of windows is one of them but we would also take into account the light that comes into those rooms (is it northern light, south light, is it cold or warm), when do you use the room? what artificial light is there? what are your colour prefrences? what items are you placing in the room?.. the list goes on. By thinking about all of these elements individually, we can create a space that is right for you and use colours that work and are functional with the surroundings. For that reason I would always suggest seeking advise from a professional interior designer or colour consultant (we are available for a chat if you would like). If you choose to look at colours yourself, remember to paint your samples onto lining paper and tape to each of your walls, leaving on each wall for 24 to 48 hours, this will allow you to view it in all lights and at all times of the day. It is easy to say a colour looks great when you purchase it on a saturday morning but after painting you realise your only ever use the space in the evening light and it changes the look completely. There will be others here with useful advice (I'm not 'qualified' for that), but I like the bedside drawers you have. I feel they would look even better if you leave some space between the sides of the bed and the drawers. So pull them both away from the bed (sideways) some 10 - 15 cm.

I think you’ve got the bones of a lovely bedroom. Personally I would paint all the walls not a statement wall. The colour would depend on your room orientation and preference but just think if your room faces west it get warm evening light so anything red toned will be more red and anything facing east will get blue morning light so blues and blue greens can look extra cold. Get lots of samples paint big squares across a visible corner and your main focal point. I would also change the mirror add a slim shelf or fireplace surround underneath. Add some art above the bed and update your ceiling light and bedside lights. If you post some images that help represent your style the kind people on here could help suggest some items.
