New side porch ideas needed please

Hi all,

My porch is falling down. So Im thinking about getting a new side porch. I dont want to go to planning, so wont be extending the footprint unfortunately. Heres my current side porch:

This is ideally what I would like, but I realised timber frame is going to probably be prohibitively expensive.

I obviously dont want a tacky uPVC side porch, but dont have the money for a timber frame full glazed side porch, so looking for an in-between solution.

Im hoping for slate roof, guttering, door at the very least. Ideally Id want dwarf wall with glazing like the above.

Im a bit stuck on whats possible or ideas, so thought Id post on here. :)

Also, do you think the door should be on the front face of the porch rather than the side where it currently is?

I love your examples of the replacement. The oak is beautiful. I would keep the door on the end as it gives you more usable space. I agree about uPVC not looking great. I would start pricing some options. Who is going to build it? Is it a self build? Compare the cost of oak windows to Alu for instance. What are you going to use it for as its a shame you cannot increase the footprint to give you an outside room. You need to find a website where people sell bespoke windows that were made to the wrong measurements in oak of course.

If oak is over budget, how about coloured upvc? Something in a traditional style in a nice sage green or cream? Not all pvc is tacky and it can make the area very cosy. Otherwise I can’t see how affordable it can be for you. This pic is a conservatory in Chartwell Green uPVC just as a guide.

Hi SteffyTaylor, is it worth extending 1m back? Will you loose too much garden for gaining not a huge amount of space? Personally I think I'd spend the money on big bi-fold doors all along the back elevation. As the kitchen is staying where it is I'd suggest having the dining table running adjacent to the RH wall in the photo and have your living area opposite, with dual aspect into your new courtyard and garden. Lots of tall plants in the courtyard would be great and I'd think about adding a door from the bedroom (as well as the extension) out into the courtyard, that would be a lovely place to have breakfast on a summer's morning! MATH, isn't the lovely panelling the open living room door? I agree put the coats elsewhere, but even if you do get rid of all of them, I'd still put some hooks on the other side where there is a recess so they don't obscure sight lines so much. Empty hooks are useful for visitors coats , or if you are going in and out all day and don't want to be putting your coat away constantly. I'd be tempted to hang coats low and have a shelf above them, with a mirror above the shelf.

Interesting house, I'd prioritising cheer up the garage door - horizontal - wide rib horman or similar, and the front toom (on the left as you look at it) simplify the window frames. Perhaps play with the gutter and window frame colours? Composite or timber front door rather than UPVC Rear extension any day before messing with a garage and turning it into a corridor room that puts off any subsequent buyer who needs front access storage. Then I like 60s/70s look - I wouldn't change it from what it is - that style would probably have a flat roof with single upstand/column for a porch in white.

Indeed, I have champagne tastes and a lemonade budget. :(

I did think about wood grain pvc. I have it on my windows and its looks ok.

I think my problem is I cant visualise it. What I have in mind is slate roof, dwarf wall with with uPVC glazing above. Perhaps I can find something similar on pinterest to give me ideas.

We all have those tastes! So many times I’ve thought this is what I want until I price it up and have to have a re-think! I hope you come to a compromise that is acceptable for you.
