I would like to add a Pro for the UK. How do I do this?
Comments (1)Hi @angiegiles, To recommend a pro, you could simply comment with their name if you think they would be a good fit. Alternatively if you know a professional that would like a Houzz profile, please contact the Houzz Team either here or via email at uksupport@houzz.com. Thanks!...See MoreHow do we hide ugly lintels?
Comments (11)You can 'skim' bricks by way of cutting them down with a disc cutter/angle grinder. You could take 10-15mm off the face of the brick, stick it onto the concrete lintel with suitable adhesive and then point up with mortar but the bricks will stand proud. Now that's OK if you have the equipment to hand and you feel confident to at least give it a go and if that being the case then it's be pretty cheap to do. If you rely on a tradesman doing it then there's no point as it's a lot of 'faffing' that will end up costing a fortune in labour. If I were to do it I might even take out 10-20mm of the lintel with an angle grinder and chisel and then fit the slips flush but you'd have to take care not to damage the lintel or take too much away. I think you might be safe with a third of the width, similar to the amount you can overhang a brick. Again, a fair amount of work, especially up a ladder! If you get the window company to attach a fascia panel then it would be in-keeping with the new window materials and the current eaves materials. It should be cheap anyway. If, for example, you were replacing the windows with a grey aluminium contemporary window then they might need taking out, but you're going to put in white framed windows that aren't to dissimilar to what you have already so with that being the case I'd personally just save all the hassle and keep the lintels. Out of interest - what have neighbouring properties done or do they all have the same concrete lintel?...See MoreHow can I hide this lintel thing?!
Comments (5)That likely a piece of wood baton to fix a curtain rail to. Either fix a curtain rail to it, hide it behind a blind or a pelmet or remove it. It is most likely screwed to the wall and then the screws filled. However if you look carefully you can likely see the screws. Put a screw driver over the filler then wack it with a hammer. This should dislodge the filler so that you can unscrew the baton....See MoreHelp - how do I hide this side soil pipe?
Comments (6)I too have a boxed in cistern and we have had it tiled. We’ve had a similar setup for about the last 15 years. As Sarah L says, the access is via the flush plate. The first time we had this set up, our plumber actually made a couple of the tiles easy to remove by using a silicone around them instead of grout (in the same colour as the grout). It was never needed - and since we’ve had to redo the bathroom for other reasons, we haven’t bothered to do this again. I researched cisterns before doing this - I do recommend you use a reputable and reliable brand - I always choose Geberit, but I’m sure there are others too. Also cisterns come in different widths and depths - I went with Geberit initially because they have a cistern that will fit into a wall of depth 10cm....See MoreOlivera
