Our little downstairs loo needs help
Comments (302)Hello folks! I haven't disappeared, just had whooping cough (yes, seriously!) with a garnish of gastric flu and torn muscles from coughing fits. So that has severely impeded our efforts (hubby's had it too, and it lasts around 3mths so we're not out of the woods yet!) with our new house (which I now describe as semi-derelict before we bought it) and so had no time/mental energy to properly get updated on what's been happening with you guys. Truth be told, I've started reading a few times & either got interrupted (mummy-ness) or fallen asleep, without finishing. I've missed this, but u guys, esp Monica & RoRo have been in my thoughts. Where to start?! I think I've taken in all that's happened in this thread since I went AWOL but might have missed some finer points. Monica, I'm so sorry to hear what u'v been through, with the RTA & the cowboy tiling / wallpapering on top! (& work always picks worst times to intensify - I just started on a Task Force this week, when shd really still be on sick leave). I mean, a marker?! Seriously?! Isn't it common knowledge / common sense to use a lightly applied pencil? Sounds like u r doing best thing by looking at it as a learning experience. Still, he deserves an honest review somewhere. Anyway, onwards and upwards, I'll look at the lounge link when I've finished this post. BTW I LOVE your artwork. Vivacious, bright and deep - is there an insight there? ;-) And RoRo, wow you've got a lot on your plate! We've been so frustrated with being held back on our projects by health, but u have taken on a bigger scale of project altogether, sounds like it's verging on municipal! U guys inspire me. :-) Thinking of starting a thread on our living room, it's the most 'civilised' room of the house so far, but I didn't take the north-facing position into account when I decided on a colour scheme of turquoise, grey and lime. (Doh!) So far I've made some headway on a concept I'm excited by, but it needs some tweaking so it doesn't feel 'cold' with the blue tone of the natural light. Are you up for sharing some of your thoughts on this??? Hope so. :-)...See MoreNeed help with our small bathroom
Comments (25)I wouldn't change much regarding the layout/placement of white goods either. But it'd be possible to get some extra. For example, an L- or P-shaped shower bath would get a nicer shower space. You'd end up with the wider part by the window though so may then also consider opaque glazing or a screen there. A concealed cistern in the back wall would bring that forward by around 10cm. If you don't want to loose all that space, a boxed-in cistern and shelves above may give you a little storage back. On the washing machine: you triggered my inner geek :-) This may be possible. You need to research a few things for this: A) a slim depth washing machine (usually 425mm) B) availability of a height reduction kit for it (if these are avail gets height down from 850mm to 800mm) C) use an extra-flat bottle trap for the basin D) partly embed that into a thin washtable (to make the surface then a total of ~100mm above the machine) If all these go together it should just be possible to fit washtable, drains, basin trap and the machine underneath into a box about 910x600x500mm (HxWxD) which is kitchen unit height. The countertop sink would sit above that. Maybe a little bit of extra space could be gained still if you'd construct a basin from a flat shower tray with an integrated trap (a Wedi fundo plano is 60mm high) but I'm not sure how to put the washing machine drain on then. Good luck!...See MoreLiving room with large Inglenook
Comments (7)Hello, I would begin by looking at the style you are trying to achieve in the final space and most importantly how you want the space to work. Once you have this list you should know what furniture is required and general directions to put it etc. Alternatively you could help the help of an interior designer. We offer a range of services to fit your budget as do many other professionals on this site. You can do a single room redesign which gets you everything from colour analysis and shopping list to lighting plans and specifications. Or opt for a simple PDF report where we can make recommendations on the overall design of your room including layout, styling and colour schemes. Helpful if your on a budget but don't know where to start. Houzz is a great platform to find the professional right for you.. someone you click with that you believe can interpret what you 'want' into a design to suit your home and your lifestyle. Check out portfolios and reviews to get more information on professionals your interested in. I hope this helps and wish you the best of luck with your exciting new project!...See MoreHow best to lay out furniture in this room?
Comments (3)Hi Lovely, I suggest you go for the L shaped sofa, whilst it is a good idea to separate the space, it still is one big space. So 2 sofa's may feel a bit too much especially as you have low ceilings. You can always add an armchair if you need more seating? I would add a curtain something in a natural linen would look lovely and soften the edges and make it feel homely. In terms of the cable, its not massively visible on the pictures but I would suggest to have it removed. I would leave the fireplace wall as it is as it is a feature. I do think you need to get a bit creative by adding textures, wood logs, candles and maybe even faux flowers somewhere. On a side note I would paint the walls a warmer colour. The white walls look quite stark compared to the fireplace which is a bit heavier. I think adding a warmer shade, say in stone or mushroom will actually lighten up the fireplace area as the contrast between the two areas will be less. I really hope that helps!
