Does pressure washing exterior areas increase the value of the house?
Comments (2)As we're in the UK the Estate Agents (as they're called here ) are looked upon in a completely different way as they're counterparts in the US - most of the time in a derogatory fashion. Your Realtors Association in the US claim 5-10% increase in the value of your home can be achieved by hiring a professional to tend to all aspect of the house exterior. The issue here in the UK is, it's difficult to ascertain such data to make the call to hire or not and our own Estate Agents Association do not seem to care to provide such important information. I wish our estate agents were more like you're own realtors... Comments (2)Hi joyners, it's not a new build its a renovation. The vertical post is in line with a new steel across the span. We could I guess out another steel along the terror wall but that would entail quite a lot more cost I guess. Having sat staring at it half the night we think we might lose the left side bifold and make it a normal window. This would let us wrap around the units a bit and maybe create a more contained kitchen feel? Which may help as the room is so open plan?...See MoreWhat to do with the exterior?
Comments (17)Hi, Rendering would be lovely but just painting in an off white would give you a massive facelift and for very little money in comparison. I would try this first and see how you feel. Easy to do yourself to save money too (few tins of paint and hire of a tower)! There are plenty of ways to spend a huge amount of I refurbished a 1940s ex-council semi which had the same kind of unpainted pebbledash Secondly the house needs some shape to look its best, so I agree that adding a porch would make a huge difference. This is a terraced house I refurbished (bit of a hobby) that had a shared porch and as long as you agree to pay for it, usually the neighbours are all in favour of home improvements. The trick I think in this situation is to make your house blend in with next door which is more expensive but worth it as at a glance you can't see where one house ends and another starts. Ok, so this is Victorian and a different style to your house but a modern style porch in a natural finish wood would look fab! Sorry to ramble, but I just think your house is lovely and so exciting to have a blank canvas!! Good luck. x...See MoreDamp/condensation issue
Comments (3)my house is a 1920's semi so it isn't a good comparison with your old farmhouse. We had condensation running down the exterior walls of the all bedrooms , the windows and the stair wall. When we removed the wallpaper, there was black mould! This was despite the house having double glazed windows, GCH , extractors in the bathroom and kitchen and an insulated loft. We had the house rendered, trickle vents put on all the windows and radiators moved to under the windows. All the plaster was blown, so we had this replaced as well. Because the whole house was replastered, I put those plastic moisture traps in every room. I think that this combination has really helped with the condensation, we haven't had any since....See Moremayflower
