Help me arrange my lounge

How can I arrange the furniture in this room? I know it’s considered a no no to have all the furniture against the walls, I could put the tv on the fold out table in the recess and move the coffee table into the centre of the room. What shall I do with the sofa, leave against the wall or bring it out? Also the art, is it too high? I have a few different mirrors I could have on the chimney breast, I do need something there though as the wall is very lumpy and needs hiding. I could swap any of the mirrors/art around from the rest of the house.

Comments (16)hi ! lining up the sofa to a feature such as a fire place is a good start... but if moving the door complicates issues then maybe it might be easier to move the fireplace ? As it looks like its not got one at the moment ? so you'd be putting it in anyway ? personally i like a pair of chairs and a decent height table betweeen them in a bay ... somewhere to play chess etc ... its tricky to comment more without room sizes ... if the fire you are thinking of is a faux one, I'd suggest maybe consider sofa on existing tv wall, and tv/ fireplace on internal wall might offer up another option ? that way you could maybe have seating on the wall between dining and lounge and the external wall, and bay ? its quite nice to see seating when you walk in a room, (with pics above ) and then get the bonus of a feature like a fireplace when you are in there ! ...changing the internal doors to glazed might give a bit more light into hallway which might be nice ! if current are fire doors though - then keep as they are! Comments (6)I'm at the end of renovating a whole house and if you're anything at all like me you are probably skint by now! And like you I'm running low on ideas too. Looking at your room I might be tempted to temporarily finish it off by not spending too much money and have it ready for Christmas telly lounging! Then maybe next year (or later ) when you're up for it finish off however you're inspired. So I'd put Ikea shelves above the TVs and paint all of it dark. Having said that I've got loads of books and they always make rooms look good! I'd also keep the fire for now and put book shelves low down the wall and put plenty of artwork above....See Moreemeleee

9 years agoHi emelee, You have a warm, cozy room happening there! The few changes you just made have solved a couple of oroblems already. I don't think you need to do much to make it even better.
Is there enough room on that bare wall to the left of the TV (where you have a pic on the wall) to place a small console table, and then hang your mirror horizontally above it, so that the mirror is reflecting the view outside your window?
I picture something modern with simple lines. You probably don't have Crate & Barrel there, but if you can find something like this parson style console table with metal frame and travertine top, I think it will provide nice contrast to that lovely plant table, and to the curvy lines of your sofa and the floral pattern in your curtains.
The clock is a little too high, but it looks like you could take that pic off the one wall and hang it below the clock - just stack everything up above the plant table and create a unique vignette.
Then, you are down to just a few accessories - maybe a ceramic platter on the coffee table and - if you do get a console table - a lamp on the left side, and an urn or bowl just slightly off centre from the middle. Oh, and maybe a couple of textured pillows (solids) on the sofa.
Again, very pretty room!

9 years agoI've moved the picture to below the clock and agree it looks much better. I actually watch very little tv. Literally 1 hour a week (game of thrones!) so I don't really sit facing the TV very often. The chimney breast actually is a teeny shade darker than the rest, purely by accident as I wanted to touch up that wall and I only had a different shade! I'd definitely consider painting it even darker, or even a different colour? I can't decide if I should leave the wall to the left of the TV empty, or out something there, maybe the chair by the window?
Thanks again for all the advice. I'm going shopping tonight for cushions :-)
