POLL: What do you prioritise when buying furniture?
Comments (21)We are in the market of selling luxury furniture, so would recommend quality and style above all. If you can afford luxury new items thats all very well, they are beautifully made and offer gorgeous styles that can stand the test of time. However, we also understand not everyone has the budget to be able to do so. If your budget is lower, be savvy and buy traditional or contemporary pieces at auction. Use your imagination and buy quality second hand furniture and accessories that are design classics for a fraction of the price. Use interior design techniques that feature colour and textures to bring out the best in your choices. You can then incorporate inexpensive items as long as they are interestingly designed. Inexpensive ....and dull...is definitely not an option....See MoreThe Shaker Workshop Ltd - DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!
Comments (20)My name is Ben Pennington and my wife Maria and I are the directors and majority shareholders of The Shaker Workshop Ltd. It is very hard to respond to the accusations on a thread like this when we don't know many of the customers involved or the experiences they had. These comments which all relate to The Shaker Kitchen Company Ltd (not The Shaker Workshop) are now over a year old, but we still get cancelled orders because of them, it really is unfair and Houzz refuse to talk to us about them, so I have to write replies in this way. The threads relate to existing customers of The Shaker Kitchen Company Ltd, when we took over some of their trading assets in October 2019. My wife Maria and I took over the running of the business in January 2020 and have never had a bad review against our company, The Shaker Workshop Ltd. Please check this out on Trust Pilot. The Shaker Workshop Ltd Reviews | Read Customer Service Reviews of www.theshakerworkshop.com (trustpilot.com) It has not been easy and every installation is not always hassle free, but we have ensured that every customer has been left satisfied. The vast majority extremely so and have let us know. Without going back over old ground too much, the accusations above are totally false, unfounded and have been proved so in a court of law. I have massive sympathy with some of the customers of The Shaker Kitchen Company, I was one, but to blame our company is simply unfair. We don't and never had any involvement in that company apart from as customers. They expanded too quickly and encountered production difficulties which took the company down. To insinuate that people took money and rode off into the sunset is simply not true. I have since got to know one of the former directors quite well, he lost his house trying to keep the company afloat. It was a great shame that some customers were left how they were and we have done our best to sort out any unresolved issues and our main focus has been on customer service and communication. The reason I am now writing this reply is because we have lost two orders this month with people citing this thread as the reason. The dates on the reviews have changed from 'oct 19-jan 20' to 'last year', which makes them seem far more recent. I have also tried to contact 'Home Bug' to see how we can help or at least find out who it is, but have had no joy. Please get in contact if you read this, it so unfair that this is still damaging our business without any right to respond. my email address is ben.p@theshakerworkshop.com If anyone has any concerns please contact my wife Maria or I so that we can address them, we will not and have never shied away from doing what is right and necessary to keep our customers happy....See MoreOnline consultations – do you offer them and what tips can you share?
Comments (10)I did my first online design consultation way back in 2010 or 2011 for a client in New York State, which seemed very exciting at the time. But I wasn't happy with the the technology I had access to and how it limited the quality of the service compared to my in-person version, so I stopped offering that and stuck to in-person. But at the end of last year I decided to go back to offering a less location dependent service and invested in a bit of tech - webcam and tablet, so now I use zoom with a screenshare and have a design briefing process that my clients work through before we talk. It's now just as good as the in-person workshop and I'm not sure I'll got back to offering an in-person version even once we're able to. I can do everything else, bar the measured survey without a site visit too, so I'm now taking projects through planning and building control stages with all client meetings done online using zoom. It's also handy that you can record zoom calls too, so you have a record of them if needed....See MoreWhat are you going to do to reduce your energy bills?
Comments (11)Have been cooking fish and vegetables in the microwave for years, they taste great. Except for an open coal fire with a back boiler for hot water, we didn't have heating in this house for the first two years after we moved in, we were very cold and felt miserable. Just before the first Covid lockdown we would occasionally stay in a local Travelodge just to warm up and to be able to move around without having to wear so many layers of clothes. The following winter Covid rules disallowed hotel stays unless for certain reasons so we had to just stay at home. ( We could have broken Covid rules/lied but like the vast majority we believed the rules must be followed. How naive and law abiding were we?) One thing I did learn was to shower (or have a bath if you need to) in the morning. For some reason it didn't seem quite so bad to be cold in the morning as it did in the evening. Perhaps being cold and tired is worse than just being cold. If electricity use is to be rationed though we have another problem. We are not on mains water. Our water supply is from a Well in the cellar and water is pumped via an electric pump from the Well. Hopefully if electricity use is to be restricted we will be given the times in advance do that we can make arrangements for a water supply and plan accordingly....See MoreJessica Kerry Mack
