Economical way of creating Crittal-style doors
Comments (39)Hi Alan, we used the same doors from for our little study. After the decorator had painted them & we removed the protective film from the glass we saw that the paint had bled into the inner frame. Unfortunately there is no way to remove the glass to paint the inner frame so that section will always remain untreated & ours looks worse because of the paint bleeding. Such a shame because from afar the doors look great....just don’t inspect them too closely! When we queried it with the decorator he said the film was there to protect painting errors whereas the big shed said it was there solely to protect the glass & that the decorator had used too much paint on the brush. Argh.......See MorePOLL: Pick an internal door!
Comments (12)Overall surely your poll is largely redundant? i think that the style of door should match the style of house or the build intention if a challenge is the plan. we are having this door dilemma at the moment. i voted wooden because that is what we will be having upstairs (i am not adventurous enough to have glass bathroom doors!) but downstairs pocket doors are our plan and am unsure how far to go with design as all, barring one, will be hidden 99% of the time....See MoreCrittal Style Aluminium sliding or folding doors
Comments (186)Fiona - I’ve been looking into replacing some doors with Crittal style and have contacted loads of suppliers and companies. The one that I’ve been most impressed with is the company mentioned above by Lou Valdini - Merlin Windows in Yorkshire. (I’m in the East Midlands). They gave me a competitive quote really quickly and then I got a quote from the fitter mentioned. (They fit across the UK and they link in with Merlin to ensure timings etc). It’s likely that we will go ahead in the next few months. (Just need to convince husband as he prefers chunky timber 😂)...See MoreAny alternative ideas to removing dividing wall?
Comments (8)I was also going to suggest carving a high top window out of the wall (friends have done this but put a modern leaded glass window in) to put glass in would be the cheapest option. Alternatives:- Sun tunnel (depends on the roof above but worth checking out) Also, We had our previous lounge that had internal bifold doors we could open up to let light in and at night, close for a cosy feel. You could also look at sliding screens (Japanese style but modern) and also have bifolds with glass so they let light in during the day but still give you privacy. Best solution for the most light...See MoreJulie Forbes Holland
