How can i possibly design this small powder room W/C?
Comments (50)Lol AMW. There's about 15cm from top of window to ceiling & the walls are cement blocks (so no recess space). The tiled 'secret' drawer compartment looks pretty cool though. I've got a cabinet being made in oak which will have to be sufficient for my daughter. The only thing I haven't decided on yet is the punter colour material to go with my java marble tile. So any pictures or links of suitable countertop/bench tops to go with the tile & oak cabinet would be grand :)...See Morehow to centre a light fixture/s above an extending dining table
Comments (5)Hi Angel This a a common questions and it always comes down to what minor things you can sacrifice to get the best of all worlds. Do I have a pendant to create a dining zone? Do I try and retain the view outside? Do I make the space versatile for parties? In my opinion a light over the table looks great if you do not have one already over the kitchen island (if you have one). Keep the light above head level (of most of your usual guests) so that you can talk to each other . It may be worth cutting out cardboard and offering it above the table to see what works for you. The light doesnt have to be too imposing it could be something light the light below. or maybe something that is a feature but still see through like the below There are not many rise and fall lights out there that can really reduce that much to be out of the way on a standard height ceiling but if you have tall ceilings then it could work. I hope this helps, and good luck with your project....See MoreSelf build living space design help
Comments (19)Another recommendation for Karen @ OnePlan even more so if you're going back and forwards as she can show you a few ideas. Everything really seems set in stone bar the plant room? There also looks to be stairs on the gable end which I assume you need for letting the dogs out? My (very non-pro!) comments on your green plan. I'd reduce the plant room depth to 1500 and the gap between the island and units to 1200. I'd access the plant room from the larder end so lose the corner cupboard. I'd put the oven at the end of the sink run and just use shelves to balance the gap between the oven and window. It means losing the window seat however just thinking it would actually work better for extra seating in the living room? I'd go for a smaller hob and have it on the island away from the stools with a downdraft extractor. The living space is a little tight but assuming you're having a tv I'd hang it against the play room wall then chose a slim chaise sofa without arms so it doesn't visually close the space off coming up the stairs. I know sofa arms shouldn't normally overlap but I think it works with window seats. You may also be able to fit a small accent chair in the left corner next to the tv and then have a sideboard on the plant room wall for extra storage....See MoreHouse looks smaller since we made our changes
Comments (17)Thanks guys. It's reassuring to hear that, I'm really hoping it is the case that it's just down to it not being finished and that it will look great when done. And I know the space is still a good size, but still can't help thinking that it feels shorter?!? Still worried that either (or all) of adding the opening between the lounge/kitchen, putting the wide sliding doors on, making the TV wall longer is creating a (negative) optical illusion. Would you say an L-shaped sofa would help the feeling of space or detract? Something like this... (see floorplan - is sofa too far over?)...See MoreAmber Jeavons Ltd
