Do you think mixing something very modern like stone, metal or glass will work in an otherwise traditional setting? I plan to have a roll top in the middle of the room and then knock part-through to the current bathroom (the bathroom is moving next door into the single bedroom) and put the high level flush loo and shower around the corner. I like nooks and crannies and general quirkiness! If I could put a step in somewhere I would! The front of the current bathroom will then be walled shelving storage for shoes, I was thinking. Also, do you know much about the new perspex wall coverings you can get instead of tiles? It'll be metro tiles otherwise. Lastly, anyone experienced the bathroom/original floorboard/water-tight scenario? I really want the floorboards to stay. I get a bit carried away when it comes to my lovely house!!!

I think you are trying to tone with what is there but in a small space I think you need to go as light as possible. I would be looking for a nearly white granite with warmer veining such as artic white (bear in mind they are often called different things by different suppliers) I also like stone type products like Silestone

My kitchen was slightly larger but needed the light units. We went with a white gloss, a wood effect dark grey laminate worktop and teamed it with walnut effect laminate flooring. The flooring really warmed the look up In my experience ... I wish I'd have had full glass splashbacks as the amount of sauce that gets splattered on the painted wall would have been easier to wipe off glass! Worth the money in my opinion. I went for white/clear as didn't want to commit to a strong colour. If we had stayed (not sold it) I would have painted around the units a colour which could have easily been changed. You could also consider a clear glass splash back (above the oven) that can be screwed on. That way you can paint or paper behind it and change it when you fancy. Usually they glue them on so you are stuck with it (no pun intended) Definitely look around for a better quality gloss unit as they can chip (sister has high street ones and they always chip!)

My husband is colorblind too (and our 4 year old too). Can't tell the diference between pale green and beige, between purple and navy. He lets me pick the colors for our house and simply says if he likes certain combinations or not. Even if he can't tell what color it is, if it looks good as a whole, he's fine with it. So even if you can't relate to a color, but it looks okay or in balance with the other colors, trust the wife. ;) All earthtones could be lovely, but some pop would be fun too (like sage/seablue). Just depends on the feel/style you want to achieve.
