A semi-formal front garden with topiary and tiled path - Teddington

Northeast-facing, front garden, light shade.

This front garden was lagging behind as the Victorian house is immaculate having undergone a major refurbishment. The clients were unsure at first but after some discussion decided on a complete overhaul. The brief was tongue-in-cheek; 'a little bit Hampton Court', so we created a smart but relaxed, semi-formal garden with a simple palette, mostly white and green with a few red Hellebores to warm up the winter. The new black and white tiled path looks immaculate.

Bespoke bin store. Created to house two mismatched wheelies, painted in Farrow & Ball 'Railings' and dressed with brushed steel furniture to match the house. Topped with a lovely sedum roof, totally self maintaining.

A new wall, mortar to match the house and paintwork, finished with dark grey gate and railings to pull the whole thing together, adds a touch of class.

The only colour in the garden is a little dark red, Hellebores for the winter and dark-red leaved Heuchera all year with red-tinged flower stems.

Unassuming Sarcococca planted under the front window. Tiny white flowers and a heavenly scent in winter, followed by shiny black berries.

Installing railings, two pieces welded together and finished on site.

A bullnose, sandstone front step was fitted to match the path that winds through the plants.

A new base was laid for the step and render made as good as new.

This old, worn step was removed and a new sandstone replacement was installed without damaging the brand new door and threshold, a tricky operation but worth it.
