Level garden with a living wall - Teddington

East-facing, open aspect with plenty of light.

A mainly sunny, narrow garden needed a rethink and update. The shed lived in the best sunny spot and the Phormiums were taking up half the space. We gave the view from the house a new perspective by altering angles away from a straight lawn and borders. It makes the garden look bigger and allows views of all the planting.

Shady planting on the living wall blends into the Tree Fern. The living wall is hinged by the house and can be wheeled out from the fence for maintenance.

Cynara cardunculus, flowered in the first year. They are wonderfully structural plants with 2m tall, dried seedheads that will last for months.

The shape of the lawn appears to change depending on where you stand. The bin store has a sedum roof. Well-planted borders are visible from the patio and the deck.

A newly planted living wall outside the kitchen is hinged in the corner. It can be wheeled away from the neighbour's fence for maintenance and is planted with lots of shade-loving specimens.
