Bright Open-plan House

We were appointed to re-design a house in Oxfordshire introducing a brand-new layout to a large family home. Our client wanted an open plan space that would flow naturally from one space to another. This house was totally transformed from a dark, dated space with a layout that didn't work, and rooms with no through access, to a space that now encourages easy movement from one room to another.

We introduced a door in the living room to enable direct access onto the garden, providing a continuous spread of natural light throughout the house. A bright yellow feature wall gives this room a vibrant, upbeat feel.

The dining room leads directly onto the kitchen with key features such as the bespoke kitchen island which keeps the two spaces connected. Open shelving within the island lends itself to the dining room for a seamless link between the two spaces.

This bright space benefits greatly from a wonderful bespoke storage unit (white lacquer finish), designed and produced by Amberth. Pops of colour from the client's books, personal framed pictures and kitchenware all add personality to this dining room.

A great amount of natural light floods in both the kitchen and dining room with a lovely connection between both spaces. Lively pops of colour gels the two spaces together for a coherent look. The kitchen island features built-in appliances. oven and microwave with the hob on the opposite side.

Open shelving and a flexible hanging solution creates a laid back feel in this kitchen. The client's colourful collection of kitchenware works perfectly against the wood finish tiled panelled walls. The space certainly doesn't lack character and charm.

We created a new opening in the kitchen, gaining direct access to the living room, and installed a sliding door to achieve a continuity with the open plan nature of the space.

The living space can either benefit from open plan access to the kitchen of simply slide the door closed for a more intimate feel. We introduced a wall mounted radiator, recessed into the wall for a flush finish, creating a feature within the space.

On entering this home, the entrance hall naturally narrows slightly as a you move from the hall to the living room, with no door separating the two spaces. Mirrors across two walls create reflections that visually expand the space. Distinctive tiles add character and a composite stone worktop (50mm thick) with a deck mounted basin, lends itself as a space saver, with a towel rail and toiler roll holder.

The upstairs bathroom benefits from a bath and separate walk-in shower. Bespoke vanity unit, a mirrored wall mounted cabinet with two ceiling mounted pendant lights and red wires for a touch of colour, gently bounces off the industrial tiled walls.
