Broomhouse Road
In this project, a light, spacious and contemporary interior was achieved through the use of a limited palette of colours and materials allied to the maximisation of natural light. An extension at the rear of the property creates a larger kitchen and dining space. A key feature of the new basement is the internal corridor into which the stair connects. The entrance corridor is made wider by simply recessing the wall below the stairs by 300mm and finishing it in wood veneer, narrowing the stairs down to the basement. This also gives the effect that the stairs are much lighter and appears to be floating. In addition, in this particular case, a very simple palette of light colours is used on the stairs to contrast with a warm wood veneer cladding on the partition below the stairs.
