Designing Personality: A Playful Brixton Flat
This Brixton flat is a warm, expressive space where bold colour meets tactile detail and mid-century soul. The design centres around a rich, earthy palette - brick reds, deep navy, dusty pinks and leafy greens - brought to life through layered textures and carefully curated furnishings.
A standout brick red velvet sofa anchors the living space, set against moody blue custom designed shelving that showcases books, art and unexpected curiosities. The mix of materials, from leather and rattan to velvet and brushed brass, creates a space that’s both refined and relaxed.
Vintage mid-century furniture bring soul and timelessness, while contemporary accents like sculptural lighting and bold fabrics keep the space feeling fresh and grounded. A bespoke dining banquette, featuring a leather backrest and a playful fabric seat, sits beneath a striking wall-mounted light, its warm tones echoed in the surrounding finishes.
Throughout the flat, colour is used with confidence but never overwhelms. From 'Booth Red' and olive green to 'Threadneedle' and 'Inchrya Blue', each colour is chosen to complement and create a flow within the space.
Then the dramatic moment of escape. The toilet space is fully wrapped in House of Hackney’s 'Plantasia' wallpaper in Sienna, where rich botanical motifs bloom across every surface including the ceiling. Paired with brass fittings, this compact space (which was planned and created as an extra wc) is a jewel box - luxurious, moody, and immersive. This tiny space is a bold contrast to the rest of the home, but compliments with its colour, craft and atmosphere.
This is a home composed with care - expressive, elegant and full of personality.
