House for Grand Designs – Small Budget Home

A low budget home in open countryside was hard fought at planning stage. As a result it uses the old stone quarry on the site as the location for the build to allow the structure to become part earth sheltered. This hid most of the bulk of the house from view.

The project excited producers at Channel Four enough to feature the build on the Grand Designs show. This is architect Garry Thomas's second Grand Designs project to feature on TV.

The end result is a low budget property that enhances the setting of this rural open countryside location. Project carried on whilst working at rra.
