Low Budget House Extension – Wins a "Wood Award"

This low budget side and rear extension to a detached private house is located within a historic parkland setting surrounded by mature ornamental trees.

The commission consisted of removing a single storey brick built garage and replacing it with a two storey timber structure. The contemporary addition adds space, light and considerable value to this home.

The project uses a steel frame and insulated concrete block at ground and first floor to enable full height structural glazing. The exterior is cladd with Western Red Cedar. The Cedar is left untreated so that it can go grey in colour to be in-keeping with the woodland setting and the adjoining properties.

The project was successful at the Wood Awards and was recognised for the excellent design, which transformed the modest dormer bungalow into a stunning contemporary home with wonderful views of gardens and landscape surrounding the site. Project carried on whilst working at rra.
