A private client with plans to convert a cluster of agricultural buildings in South Devon and an unscheduled visit to our London showroom led to the fitting out and furnishing of the whole house. The project started in the kitchen where a combination of Artematica and Sine Tempore units from Valcucine were combined to create a very individual solution to the clients’ requirements. On to the main dining and morning room areas which feature tables and seating from Valcucine, Walter Knoll and Cassina… Grande Suite from Walter Knoll was selected for the main Lounge area with an open study area beyond. The storage system was manufactured by Lema and seating was supplied by Poltrona Frau and Driade. This is essentially a retirement home which can accommodate an enlarged family for high days and holidays. The accommodation would not be complete without a large social area for those rainy days featuring a bar area with seating by Cassina and a curved seating unit by Minotti to enjoy those feature length movies. This is a large house and there is lots more… Bedroom furniture by Lema, Novamobili and Zanotta and a second kitchen in the guest suite featuring the Demode kitchen from Valcucine.

Основной задачей перед дизайнерами, приступившими к разработке проекта, стояло бережное сохранение существующих архитектурных решений с арочными потолками в нижнем этаже и двускатной крышей мансарды с несущими деревянными балками. Чистые архитектурные формы решено было подчеркнуть универсальным белым цветом стен. На контрасте с ними были выбраны полы черного цвета из массивной доски.

This expansive traditional kitchen by senior designer, Randy O'Kane features Bilotta Collection cabinets in a mix of rift cut white ash with a stain for both the tall and the wall cabinets and Smoke Embers paint for the base cabinets. The perimeter wall cabinets are double-stacked for extra storage. Countertops, supplied by Amendola Marble, are Bianco Specchio, a white glass, and the backsplash is limestone. The custom table off the island is wide planked stained wood on a base of blackened stainless steel by Brooks Custom, perfect for eating casual meals. Off to the side is a larger dining area with a custom banquette. Brooks Custom also supplied the stainless steel farmhouse sink below the window. There is a secondary prep sink at the island. You can add a breakfast bar or counter to your existing kitchen units, or stick with a good old-fashioned dining table if you don’t need the extra work surfaces. There are a huge variety of island designs to cater to different needs – you can have sinks, ovens, hobs, wine storage and all sorts of drawers and organisers built-in, you can have separate bars and counters that extend from your island, or you could go for a kitchen island on wheels to make your kitchen layout more versatile.

How do I choose my kitchen units and cabinets?

When picking out kitchen units and cupboard styles for a fitted kitchen, you’ll first want to consider the more practical questions – how many units do you need? It’s always best to overestimate how much kitchen storage you’ll need as we all tend to have a habit of filling up whatever current space we have to the maximum. Shaker style cabinets and raised and recessed panel cabinets offer a more traditional kitchen cabinet look, while flat panel cabinet doors tend to lend more to the modern and contemporary style. However, going for raised or recessed panel work in a striking colour such as dark blue, green or black can still work with contemporary kitchen ideas. White kitchens can give a sleek and clean feel, but remember you may have to do a bit more cleaning of those cupboard doors if you want everything to stay shiny and fresh. However, there are now lots of pull out compartments and drawers with trays and shelving that can act as mini kitchen pantries, and you can install handy cupboard organisers that fit onto the inside of the door to make the most of your cupboard space. You can also look at corner drawers and cupboards that open up to reveal lots of extra storage.
