We wanted to create a space where all the family would could get together and enjoy or entertain friends. We designed a warm palette of taupes, creams and brass fittings. The quartz surfaces gave the kitchen a beautiful gloss finish with the wood panelling to the front of the island the perfect finishing and unique touch.

This young family wanted to create an open plan, social space that had plenty of room for their energetic children. It was important to them that they had good visibility from the kitchen through to the snug area where they could see what the kids were up-to whilst they were cooking & entertaining. The 5 panel shaker door is completed with contrasting & simplistic brass handles & painted in Farrow & Ball ‘Black Blue’ to give a contemporary accent to this traditional design. To present a sleek & relaxing element to the design Tim incorporated a BORA pure extractor hob, SIEMENS studio line appliances in graphite grey, black Quooker hot tap & 20ml ‘Cloudburst’ concrete worktops. The island worktop over hang allows for comfortable family dining.

This cottage given a fabulous new lease of life! This characterful home in Saltford had been loved, but had a very confused floor plan and was not suited to modern life (nor with practicalities in mind!). We bought it bang up to date with a design to adapt the home for modern living. We provided 4 bedrooms over three floors with master suite, separate utility room and ground floor bathroom all within the shell of an 18th century cottage. The client's budget did not allow all the work to happen at once, but we carefully designed the layout to allow work to be phased. This still enabled the clients to complete the first phase, move in and live there while the second phase was completed. This was a fascinating project for incredible clients. To optimize costs and timelines, our Montecito studio took the existing Craftsman style of the kitchen and transformed it into a more contemporary one. We reused the perimeter cabinets, repainted for a fresh look, and added new walnut cabinets for the island and the appliances wall. The solitary pendant for the kitchen island was the focal point of our design, leaving our clients with a beautiful and everlasting kitchen remodel. --- Project designed by Montecito interior designer Margarita Bravo. With tall ceilings, an impressive stone fireplace, and original wooden beams, this home in Glen Ellyn, a suburb of Chicago, had plenty of character and a style that felt coastal. Six months into the purchase of their home, this family of six contacted Alessia Loffredo and Sarah Coscarelli of ReDesign Home to complete their home’s renovation by tackling the kitchen. “Surprisingly, the kitchen was the one room in the home that lacked interest due to a challenging layout between kitchen, butler pantry, and pantry,” the designer shared, “the cabinetry was not proportionate to the space’s large footprint and height. None of the house’s architectural features were introduced into kitchen aside from the wooden beams crossing the room throughout the main floor including the family room.” She moved the pantry door closer to the prepping and cooking area while converting the former butler pantry a bar. Alessia designed an oversized hood around the stove to counterbalance the impressive stone fireplace located at the opposite side of the living space. She then wanted to include functionality, using Trim Tech‘s cabinets, featuring a pair with retractable doors, for easy access, flanking both sides of the range. The client had asked for an island that would be larger than the original in their space – Alessia made the smart decision that if it was to increase in size it shouldn’t increase in visual weight and designed it with legs, raised above the floor. Made out of steel, by Wayward Machine Co., along with a marble-replicating porcelain countertop, it was designed with durability in mind to withstand anything that her client’s four children would throw at it. Finally, she added finishing touches to the space in the form of brass hardware from Katonah Chicago, with similar toned wall lighting and faucet.

However, going for raised or recessed panel work in a striking colour such as dark blue, green or black can still work with contemporary kitchen ideas. However, there are now lots of pull out compartments and drawers with trays and shelving that can act as mini kitchen pantries, and you can install handy cupboard organisers that fit onto the inside of the door to make the most of your cupboard space. You can also look at corner drawers and cupboards that open up to reveal lots of extra storage.
