The Brief Designer Aron was tasked with creating the most of a wrap-around space in this Brighton property. For the project an on-trend theme was required, with traditional elements to suit the required style of the kitchen area. Every inch of space was to be used to fit all kitchen amenities, with plenty of storage and new flooring to be incorporated as part of the works. Design Elements To match the trendy style of this property, and the Classic theme required by this client, designer Aron has condured a traditional theme of sage green and oak. The sage green finish brings subtle colour to this project, with oak accents used in the window framing, wall unit cabinetry and built-in dresser storage. The layout is cleverly designed to fit the space, whilst including all required elements. Selected appliances were included in the specification of this project, with a reliable Neff Slide & Hide oven, built-in microwave and dishwasher. This client’s own Smeg refrigerator is a nice design element, with an integrated washing machine also fitted behind furniture. Another stylistic element is the vanilla noir quartz work surfaces that have been used in this space. These are manufactured by supplier Caesarstone and add a further allure to this kitchen space. Special Inclusions To add to the theme of the kitchen a number of feature units have been included in the design. Above the oven area an exposed wall unit provides space for cook books, with another special inclusion the furniture that frames the window. To enhance this feature Aron has incorporated downlights into the furniture for ambient light. Throughout these inclusions, highlights of oak add a nice warmth to the kitchen space. Beneath the stairs in this property an enhancement to storage was also incorporated in the form of wine bottle storage and cabinetry. Classic oak flooring has been used throughout the kitchen, outdoor conservatory and hallway. Project Highlight The highlight of this project is the well-designed dresser cabinet that has been custom made to fit this space. Designer Aron has included glass fronted cabinetry, drawer and cupboard storage in this area which adds important storage to this kitchen space. For ambience downlights are fitted into the cabinetry. The End Result The outcome of this project is a great on-trend kitchen that makes the most of every inch of space, yet remaining spacious at the same time. In this project Aron has included fantastic flooring and lighting improvements, whilst also undertaking a bathroom renovation at the property. This was a full gut an renovation. The existing kitchen had very dated cabinets and didn't function well for the clients. A previous desk area was turned into hidden cabinetry to house the microwave and larger appliances and to keep the countertops clutter free. The original pendants were about 4" wide and were inappropriate for the large island. They were replaced with larger, brighter and more sophisticated pendants. The use of panel ready appliances with large matte black hardware made gave this a clean and sophisticated look. Mosaic tile was installed from the countertop to the ceiling and wall sconces were installed over the kitchen window. A different tile was used in the bar area which has a beverage refrigerator and an ice machine and floating shelves. The cabinetry in this area also includes a pullout drawer for dog food.

On the left of the cooking modules, a utensil pullout was incorporated to help keep utensils organized and easy to put away. The pullout was custom made and features the walnut drawer boxes that were used throughout the space. The kitchen features both off white cabinets and dark stained maple cabinets. The cooktop area bumps out and has a toe detail applied to make it stand out.

For this traditional kitchen remodel the clients chose Fieldstone cabinets in the Bainbridge door in Cherry wood with Toffee stain. This gave the kitchen a timeless warm look paired with the great new Fusion Max flooring in Chambord. Fusion Max flooring is a great real wood alternative. The flooring has the look and texture of actual wood while providing all the durability of a vinyl floor. This flooring is also more affordable than real wood. It looks fantastic! (Stop in our showroom to see it in person!) The Cambria quartz countertops in Canterbury add a natural stone look with the easy maintenance of quartz. We installed a built in butcher block section to the island countertop to make a great prep station for the cook using the new 36” commercial gas range top. We built a big new walkin pantry and installed plenty of shelving and countertop space for storage.

How do I choose my kitchen units and cabinets?

It’s always best to overestimate how much kitchen storage you’ll need as we all tend to have a habit of filling up whatever current space we have to the maximum. Next you can consider kitchen cabinet style and colour. Shaker style cabinets and raised and recessed panel cabinets offer a more traditional kitchen cabinet look, while flat panel cabinet doors tend to lend more to the modern and contemporary style. However, going for raised or recessed panel work in a striking colour such as dark blue, green or black can still work with contemporary kitchen ideas. White kitchens can give a sleek and clean feel, but remember you may have to do a bit more cleaning of those cupboard doors if you want everything to stay shiny and fresh.
