“My husband and I decided to add a first floor master on to our home. We spoke with several architects prior to meeting James Hess, that could not give us the look that we wanted on the exterior of the house. James helped us work through some tricky situations. We did not want our addition to look like an afterthought!! When the project was completed, the addition looked as though it should have always been there! “My husband and I were very happy with James' work for us which included architectural work for our master bedroom and bathroom and our kitchen. Our Oak Park home is a 1906 gem and we wanted to keep the integrity of detail yet become more livable. Both projects included moving walls; designing wooden details--windows to cabinets--that reflected detail in the rest of the house; placing weight-bearing beams to support ceilings and roof; redesigning stairs to basement and back yard, etc. Vanderheyden is a good listener and a solid architect/designer. He worked well with both our contractor and kitchen designer to improve and carry out our designs. We give him 5 stars. Linda and John Hillman”

“Brad did an outstanding job on our master suite/family room addition (pictured). This was our first experience working with an architect and Brad immediately put us at ease. He was incredibly easy to work with. He welcomed our ideas and was able to put them into a design that I couldn't imagine we'd be able to have. He always kept our preferences and our budget in mind and not only produced a stunning design, but kept it true to our house and within our budget. The biggest compliment we've received is that the addition fits in seamlessly with our house -- they can't even remember how the "old house" looked. Brad was invaluable during the contractor selection and was able to give us objective and practical advice when selecting our builder. The builder was also very complimentary of Brad's work -- commenting that the designs were very detailed and easy to understand. I would highly recommend Brad for any project, big or small. His rates are VERY reasonable, always meets deadlines (even when I can't) and was a pleasure to work with.”

“Greg Richard was the perfect architect for our project. He respected our thoughts and ideas and was very professional when we suggested changes to the plans. We had confidence in Marshall Architects design aesthetics for this style as we've seen a number of his past homes built in the area. We were not sure how it could be pulled off given our limited funds and design criteria. All we can say is that our expectations were exceeded because the design of the home is truly amazing to us and everything we always dreamed about. “Nick is doing drawings for a deck with enclosed storage shed below and patio. A very good experience with this architect. Lots of two way communications and bringing ideas we had not thought of to the table. Has also given us a few ways to make our rough idea better and less costly to build. Nick is very personable and easy to get along with which is important when hiring someone.”
