Murals and Trompe L’Oeil paintings can provide your home or business with a distinctive charm and personality, which can encapsulate your tastes and interests. Trompe l’oeil is a French expression, which directly translates as 'trick the eye'. They are a painted illusion, a visual joke which are intrinsically designed to deceive the viewer to believe that what they are seeing is real. Throughout my website, there are many examples of my murals, where you can see the diversity of my work. I have undertaken commissions for a wide range of clients, ranging from restaurants and hotels to private homes and children’s rooms. I also paint glow-in-the-dark star ceilings that create the illusion that the ceiling has been removed on a clear night. These effects are usually completed in one day - more details and prices can be found on my website. Additionally, I have had the fortune to showcase my mural painting on television including interior makeover programmes on BBC1 and ITV 1. I have also produced instructional books on trompe l'oeil painting - 'Trompe L'Oeil Interiors' 2002 and the 'Trompe L'Oeil Bible' 2003. Recently I have added three more books on step-by-step trompe l'oeil painting - 'Venetian Window' , 'Sun & Moon Mosaic' and 'Orange Tree'. These new books are published by Blue Macaw Publications and more details can be found in the 'projects' section in this site. Before undertaking each mural, I provide a no obligation consultation and preliminary sketches and designs. If you are happy with what you see, I will then supply a quotation for the prospective work. I am based in Essex and I can cover the areas of London and the home countries. Occasionally I will work further afield to cover the whole of the UK and abroad.

I am based in Bradford on Avon and have worked with glass for a number of years. Self taught and self employed, Istarted out with a workshop in Cornwall creating stained glass windows to commission and exhibition. A year's spell at Swansea Glass Institute ignited a passion for etching patterns and images into glass by the process of sandblasting. Resourcing ideas from an overgrown garden in Wales, the delicate results inspired a change of direction, and paved the way for the creation of decoratively etched mirrors and bespoke designs in clear glazing. By the process of sandblasting, surface areas of glass and mirror are etched and frosted through hand cut stencils to reveal the incidental, silhouetted forms of branches, stems, leaves and other tangled flora in all its wild spontaneous stages of growth and decay. When applied to clear glazing, the design may appear either as a positive image - decoratively frosting the image into the glass surface, or as a negative image whereby the design remains transparent against a frosted background. Light diffuses through the etched areas, often casting shadows across floors and walls. Varying degrees of privacy can be created and total opacity can be achieved by etching both sides, the design appearing as a subtle silhouette within the glass. The process is effective within mirrors for which I have created a range of designs, both in the positive and negative. The light enhancing qualities of material combined with a delicate design are an elegant addition to any room. I undertake bespoke commissions and create pieces for exhibition.

DS works has several strands to the bow: fine art, hand painted murals and the Rammed Earth Sculpture project. The murals are among the most original, and imaginative available anywhere in the world. There are many delightful details and ideas in each one which take time to get to know. I am happy to work with you in creating a mural for your own space - any room is possible. Children´s rooms are very popular to help your children grow up in a creative space, individual to your child´s taste and interests. The abstract canvases have a unique flowing, organic style to them. Over the years more than a hundred have been sold. The rammed earth sculpture project is a pioneering attempt to create a new and sustainable sculpture medium using rammed earth. In effect it is like recreating sedimentary rock and has been used for building walls since ancient times. Now Dominic Snow and a handful other pioneers around the world are adapting this as a sculpture medium.

I paint joyful and colourful abstract paintings on canvas inspired by my travels and influenced by the light and space of California where I lived for 14 years. The energy of gesture and bold colour are hallmarks of my work, which portrays an active vitality and the expression of spirit.
