“Planning for my later years with increasing physical diminishment, I used the building and design team of FAIRFAX DESIGN SOLUTIONS (Martha Fecteau and Sam Scott)) to undertake an extensive ‘Aging in Place’ remodel of my cherished home of 43 years. The remodel includes an additional powder room on main floor, creating a large master bedroom by removing a wall between 2 bedrooms, creating a large, extraordinary master bath with a 5x6 curb-less shower that includes a folding teak bench, moving W/D from basement up next to bedroom, and creating a beautiful office with built in cabinets in the old dining room. All suggested ADA/ fall prevention improvements were incorporated. Both Martha and Sam were terrific to work with. They drew on years of experience and collaboration, pulling together tremendous skill and craftsmanship in the design and execution of the project. They creatively grappled with modifications provoked by the nature of my 1955 house. They both have steady, calming personas.They were incredibly patient and accommodating to health challenges of my own during construction. Martha brought all products to me to choose from, saving me a lot of time and energy. Sam was on the project everyday — either managing the skilled laborers he brought in to do the plumbing, electricity, dry wall, tiling, etc. or crafting himself some beautiful, original wainscoting to dress up the new hallway. “I hired Exquisite Designs a little over a year ago for their interior design services. I had interviewed many interior design companies here in the Northern Virginia area but was not happy with the business practice of putting thousands of dollars down as a retainer before starting any work. At the end of the day, I selected Paulanne Gregson's Exquisite Designs company because of her very friendly business model of paying by the our for her time. Paulanne first worked with me to understand my tastes in style and materials and then came up with a plan to transform my home into a cozy living space. We started with picking colors and painting my family room and foyer and then selecting and buying furniture for my family room. We then progressed to redoing my kitchen including tile flooring, granite counter tops, sink, cooktop, under cabinet lighting and tile back splash. I liked that she was flexible in terms of allowing me to do some of the painting but also suggesting very reasonable contractors to do the work if I didn't want to, or couldn't perform the installation or work myself. She has a wonderful eye for color and making sure that everything matches. But one of her best attributes is knowing home materials (like wood, tile, types of paint, etc...) and their applications and making suggestions on their use. I'll end this by saying, it's been a very enjoyable experience in that she has been very flexible with me, allowing me to make decisions where I wanted but always being ready to step in with advice or making sure an installation contractor was doing the work correctly. “RoomAntics Interiors were recommended to me by a friend after I had visited my friend's renovated and rebuilt home. I had a Dining/Living room that I was constantly rearranging the furniture. I was initially skeptical that they could help me. Both Anita and Aliza spent a long time asking me what I wanted to do with the space, what colors and patterns I liked, what colors and patterns I didn't like, what pieces had to stay, what I could part with, and what could be changed. I had inherited some furniture that I was emotionally attached to and initially didn't want to part with anything. With an incredible amount of patience, they were able to convince me that I had too much dark and large furniture in the space. By parting with a few pieces of furniture and changing the colors and layout of the remaining pieces, they were able to create a lighter, better flowing, more cohesive space that matched the rest of my main floor. Anita and Aliza worked within my budget and were extremely considerate of the items that held emotional value for me. RoomAntics Interiors exceeded my expectations! When I walk through my front door, it feels lighter and happier than it ever did. Friends and family who now come in are often startled by the contrast. The transformation is dramatic. I honestly wasn't able to envision what they had in mind when they started, I wish I had done this years ago! They are currently working on my family room, so I would absolutely recommend them and use them again!”
