She has the personality to deal with people and she is willing to listen to your ideas so that she can get a sense of what type of style you like. She has a lot of patience. It was needed with me. She never got upset. We worked so well together. She came up with a color palette that I liked and we worked from there. We met to pick out furnishings and accessories which she ordered. She coordinated all of the shipping of furniture and accessories which was a major task in itself. Once it had all been delivered, she coordinated the movers and handyman to come in and put everything in place. I couldn't stop saying ---WOW!!! As I said before, she comes highly recommended!!!”

“Merry Powell is a combination of experience, knowledge, creativity, and sheer brilliance. These qualities enable her to "capture" and "define" the individual style of her clients. Merry has overseen the renovation of 8 properties of ours since we met her in 2005. No project is too big or too small for her. Merry is the ultimate perfectionist and she is reliable and trustworthy. Another great quality that we love about her is that she will give you her opinion as she guides you through the painstaking task of bringing it all together. I needed someone with her expertise. I know what I like; but I don't know how to put it altogether seamlessly. Merry is a wealth of information and she will work within a client's budget. When the project is finished, it will surpass your dreams and it is never "cookie cutter." It will be your style. Prior to working with Merry, we worked with other decorators who were tentative at best and never really "got" the look I wanted. They would bring "books" and leave the rest to me. That did not work. Her patience and keen listening can translate my description of what I envision to a beautiful drawing that she e-mails to me within a day of our meeting. And she works efficiently and is able to change direction if I'm not liking something. Transforming ideas and wishes into the perfect result is Merry's signature. Decorating used to be a tiring chore before teaming up with Merry. Now, I actually look forward to it. The price for a competent professional saves time and money. Merry knows what's out there. She knows the most practical approach and she won't choose the most expensive option if she knows of a better alternative. Working with Merry meant no more waiting for the decorator to get back to you. She can find any piece of furniture, any fabric, any tile or combination of.... any time. She is a pure delight to work with and other professionals love working with her, too. She transformed our large Capitol Hill Victorian into a "turn-key" property that was featured in a magazine. Merry also transformed my professional office on Capitol Hill to an inviting and comfortable space. From the complete rennovation of our Northern Neck, Virginia beach house in 2015 to our newest home on Sanibel Island in Florida, Merry is consistely superb. Her instincts about what works for her clients are "spot on." It just makes so much sense to team up with a talented and gifted decorator like Merry....especially when you work and have family obligations. Making one room flow into another takes time and talent. Choosing paint colors and fabrics takes time unless you have a decorator with a wealth of experience and an eye for color and design.
