Undecided on new paint colours

Hi everyone. Complete newbie here so would appreciate any advice :)

We have just panelled and painted our hallway, stairs and landing but I’m really not loving the colour above the panelling as it looks too yellow (Dulux Timeless).

The panelling colour is Dulux knotted twine and I think this colour looks lovely as it is more of a Greige colour.

The tiles have a grey/white/taupe colour to them so I am considering repainting above the panelling standard white colour.

What does everyone think?

Have a look at Egyptian Cotton. It’s a nice pale taupe that may go although it may be a little too similar?

Here's my advice, don't even think about doing it all at once, it's a nightmare. Start in your kitchen and living area and really focus on a three colour focus, a neutral, mid colour and a highlighter depending on your taste. I'm currently doing my area in grey/ green/teal. Then when you are living in it, take your time and develop the theme into the next room because as you live in it , you can decide do you like it and then perhaps vary the tones up and down or change the proportions of the colours and textures. Spend time looking through websites and catalogues and just don't jump at the first thing you see. I have looked at Magnolia walls now for five years and eventually as I worked through each room it became more enjoyable and less of a headache and I could manage it better rather then one big mammoth task.

You will need a few tester pots to get it right. If you paint it a blue grey it may look chilly, especially with cool LEDs. My kitchen floor is similar to yours and North facing. I tried lots of different greys but ended up with Skimming stone as it has a tinge of warmth but a definite violet undertone. I went well with the deep olive I also chose. Pavilion grey and Cornforth white have a cool blue undertone but they may look cold - best to try a few out in both natural and artificial light. This shows skimming stone (and olive green) and my floor tiles look very similar to yours. to yours.

I think your color intensity thoughts are fine...... but for me I find it all a little 50 shades and would rather see a combination of Stiffkey Blue, Lamp Room Grey and Wevet. Or alternatively Tanners Brown, Oxford stone and dimity/ All White. Or Pitch Black, Pidgeon/cromarty and James White.

Thanks for relying Sarah :) I did have a little look at the coordinating colours but there weren’t any lighter colours it suggested.

We initially painted the panelling Egyptian cotton but this also came out very yellow in our hallway unfortunately.

I decided to paint a small part of it white just for contrast and I think it looks better….i think 😂

Dulux has Diffused Lace as a suggestion - maybe worth a go? It looks less yellow…

I vote for white. Nothing worse than grey with a touch of yellow. If you don't go with white then buy a lot of tester pots and really try out another colour on different walls first. The white looks much fresher.

The white looks lovely. White seems to get a bad press on here sometimes but it looks good.
