House Floor Plan Design Dilemma.
Comments (7)As a vague vision, (can help on detail if you think ok In principle) Ideally I’d reclaim the annexe for play/music/ kids room and annexe bed add ensuite as use for students. Turn cloak room to downstairs loo access from hall. current student bed into cloak/boots storage and utility. Open up current utility to access new cloak room and if you need extra kitchen space could put larder where wash machine etc is at moment, I would avoid too much wall movement as expensive assuming you need to save the money for new chalet in garden (friend achieved chalet style for around £65-70k). If you have budget I would certainly extend upstairs one side of house to make use of eades and up to full height so you could have as a minimum bunk bed arrangement or 2beds depending ages of your children. Pending budget could look into whether can get another bedroom up there. Obviously this is just a vision would need more detail to confirm, hope you can see mark up on plan attached...See MoreGround floor layout dilemma
Comments (11)I would knock through the lounge to the sitting room, it like you just need to remove windows. But the end of the lounge by the kitchen I would square off with the kitchen and knock through that whole space with the end of the lounge, the kitchen and the garden room into one big kitchen diner/family room, and knock the dining room and other room together. You will end up with 3 massive rooms but you can break them up if necessary with clever furniture arrangement. Keep the downstairs loo, bedroom etc as is. You will always need a downstairs look, you don't want visitors having to trail upstairs unnecessarily and the bedroom could become a spare from/study if you need one, or as the children get older and need a quieter study space. I'm no expert but the children will get a playroom (old dining room etc), you can have a more formal grown up space (old sitting room, lounge), and a more relaxed family space at the back with the kitchen/garden room....See More1930's Bungalow Layout Help Needed
Comments (13)Hi Rebecca We are looking at doing 3 bedrooms as we have quite a few grandchildren. I think that room should be big enough for doubles, bedroom 2 would work out to be 2.9m x 2.4m and bedroom 3 2.75m x 2.3m so I think that they would be big enough, will probably place a double in Bedroom 2 and bunk beds in Bedroom 3, so don't think that we are compromised on size. My issue with the removal of the wall you marked is that I think that this was the original external wall of the bungalow, so would need a structural survey and involve quite a lot of work removing it. Am looking for an ex-display kitchen which will reduce the cost of moving the kitchen, am also looking for some reclaimed solid oak flooring for the Living Room, kitchen and hall ways (if anyone comes across any then please message me, we have considered keeping the kitchen where it is but we think that placing it where the current bedroom 2 is would give us a nicer kitchen and dining area. Thanks for your input guys it makes me feel a little more confident with our plans, we have noticed that there was a window at the end of the bedroom that must have been blocked up when they built the conservatory so my look a closing off the current door and opening this up and installing some double doors maybe bi-fold to open up the front room Cheers Steve...See MoreDesign help - 1960s Chalet bungalow project
Comments (4)The front gable built by others seems to really suit this house and clearly a precedent has been set so planning shouldn’t be a problem. But currently the upstairs isn’t big enough for what you are planning so you have to add to the downstairs as well…. I suspect the property will increase in size substantially which throws up problems of: is there enough budget? Will the garage be in the way of a rear extension? Given the new square footage will any of the old rooms (such as the living room) be undersized? You might look at the public access part of the planning portal on your local Borough Councils website. You should be able to look up neighbours planning applications and gain inspiration from their plans. You might also consider if moving the stairs or building a garage on the side driveway helps achieve a better layout and garden....See MoreLizzie Hudson
