Comments (11)This is a super site with incredibly friendly and helpful contributors, I am sure you will get a lot out of it, I certainly have. :) As well as the advice from the great folks on here, there are 2 books that I have found immensely helpful. The first is the Haynes manual for Victorian and Edwardian houses and the second is Farrow and Ball: How to Decorate. The Haynes helped me think about the history of my house, what I could/should/will/won't find as we tackle each room. The F&B book helped me think about colour and how it is affected by the light coming into the room (or lack thereof). It also made me think about the flow of the house from room to room which is especially important in a smaller house I think as a cohesive flow will make the rooms (and the whole house) feel bigger. The best bit of advice I got was from my brother-in-law who said that we should live with the house for a good 6 months before making any large changes. There may be stuff that really needs doing though such as neutralising any particularly strong decor from the previous owners. (I removed all the odd strips of wallpaper stuck at random places in the hall!) Good luck with it and make sure you post to let us know how it is going. Oh and RB, surfing RightMove is a super idea. Quite a lot of the time it does show you stuff you then know you don't want!...See Moreso I made a bathroom unit and mirror!
Comments (42)Just one thing that has come to mind, wood can expand and contract slightly so possibly better of bonding some metal flat bar (30mm or 40mm wide, you can get it in b&q) then the wooden frame onto that If you know a local metal fabrication place the could make you a frame from steel angle, mine is u section along the top for hanging and angle along the sides and bottom, I’d say you’d be fine with just the flat bar option above then the wood :-)...See MoreHow can I maximise the space in a small ensuite bathroom layout?
Comments (4)Hi, I'd make your ensuite bigger. A 75cm squared shower is not fun. I'd go for at least 100 x 100cm. The bedroom is very generous compared to the ensuite and WIR. Considering your bed is unlikely to be longer than 200cm, then you won't need 150cm to walk around it. I'd give 50cm or more to the ensuite. And I think you won't be able to fit a cavity slider in that wall between the ensuite and WIR. I'd think about a shower up in the space you have the vanity. Then the WC next to it, with the back of the loo on the right wall. And the vanity/basin on the wall where you show the shower. So you see the vanity first when walking in. Other option is swap the shower and WC around. You can put a hinged door here, opening against the WC or shower as you can (if you want) close the door when they are being used. Another 50cm depth to the WIR will make a difference to your storage too....See MoreInterior Affairs -- Vickie Daeley
