Not sure how to decorate small office

I have a small office in my house as attached. I've ripped all the shelving down so I have a blank canvas, but I cannot think of a decent colour scheme.
The office will be for work, so I'd like to make it as stress less and cosy as possible.
Dark warm colours seem to be the choice to do this, however I don't want to make it feel smaller.
my options are pretty unlimited, as anything can be done from flooring, wallpaper to lighting. the only limitation is structural change.
does anyone have any suggestion's?

9 years agolast modified: 9 years agoCan you share the measurements and the geographic orientation of the room. Is the window facing north, south? And does your line of work impose special requirements, e.g. do you need space for a high quality printer and full-spectrum light as a graphics designer or multiple pc screens as a software developer?
Personally I prefere neutral / white-ish walls in my office and either white marble or wood colored desks. If you really need a colored wall, maybe a a soft beige, sand colored wall in contrast to a slightly darker but still bright wood could work. Something like this feels very relaxing, cozy but still bright to me. Personally though, I think this wall color is already too dark:

How do you plan to layout the room?
That 45° triangle shelf in the corner was a good spot for a small PC. But the window is quite high. You could create a small plateau near the window, raising the floor by about 20-25cm (8-10 inch). I think this change of level give the room a less deep and dark feeling.

9 years agoI quite like the raised bit. The sun rises to the east of the window.
Computing wise, I have a couple of laptops and a server, bit will need to put in printers, router, phone etc.

Comments (22)I think something like in the below picture would look great. The dining set here would look great too. Add a white or cream large shaggy rug for warmth and brightness in front of the sofa. Comments (6)Beautiful floor, window and ceiling height - the room has good bones! How far you go with it depends on your budget, but at present it just feels a bit unfinished. I would add: - A rug (don't go too small - a small rug in the middle of the room will make the room look smaller) - On the shelves, a mixture of trailing house plants and succulents in small pots, plus a couple of well chosen non-office things, perhaps a nice vase, a framed photo, some non-work books with nice coloured spines - Art on the walls - And change the lamp for something that feels less office-y. Come up with a colour scheme and choose a rug, art and nicknacks (sorry, hate that word...) which work together. I'm not sure if my monitor is reading your current colours very well - are they more greyish or more brownish? If more greyish (cool tones) I'd be thinking coolt-toned dusky pinks and reds to bring some warmth and cosiness, with possibly some touches of navy or a lighter blue. I'm picturing a rug with a vintage feel, nothing too "brand spanking new" looking. I like Jonathan's layout above because it means you have a wall rather than a window over the sofa (and can look out of the window when sitting/lying on it), which means you could create a nice little gallery wall or have a large round mirror above it to bounce light around and make the space feel wider. 9 years ago@Ann Ellis: Good point. Here a version using red oak texture. Never mind the white spot on the window frame. I think that's just the renderer having problems with too much light.

9 years agoI agree with you, Greg. I think bookcases can look quite cluttered in small spaces. In terms of colour, soft blue or blue in general has an effect on productivity and concentration. I think that should be your starting point. Good luck!
