Anyone with a layout idea for the following kitchen diner?
Comments (32)Beyond your desired look and feel, you need to have a list of appliances that need to be included in the layout. Most technical kitchen design is about how to fit all the appliances in. Cabinets tend to fit into place around them. I've noticed also that you want folding sliding doors (FSDs). They are very fashionable at the moment but come with certain issues you should be aware of. Firstly, they come with a lot of moving parts. Over time, new walls and door openings tend to settle and can cause issues with the ease of opening. When open, FSD panels take a up a surprising amount of space. You need to include that space in your plan. Of course, they can open to the outside but that could impede the flow of people outside. Consider large sliding doors or stacking sliding doors instead. If you're set of FSDs try to go with standard sizes as they tend to be less expensive than custom sizes. That applies to any doors/windows....See MoreKitchen layout ideas
Comments (12)I am assuming the plan is similar to this. it is better to know exact measurements: if it is possible to incorporate you big fridge / freezer into the kitchen area (or swap for a standard Fridge / freezer, then you'd possibly have space for wall oven / microwave / mixer garage / coffee machine), remove the radiator from the kitchen and put it in the dining area or do under cabinet heating radiator, you'd have a space to put 300-350 mm deep tall china cabinet (could be with glazed doors and some integrated lighting) and you'd end up with a better traffic flow and small cosy breakfast nook away from cooking. Obviously, it all depending on precise measurements and budget. here are some ideas:...See MoreKitchen layout ideas
Comments (5)The island is very small as shown on your plan, by the time you have a hob installed (roughly 600mm) you will only have 450mm either side of the hob as usable space, also the gaps either side of the island are very narrow, ideally you'd want round 900mm for it to feel comfortable. I would create a U shaped kitchen with a breakfast bar in the centre of the room, that way you still get the island effect you are after but you can keep the units to the right and gain additional units along the internal wall to the bottom of your image as shown....See More6m rear extension layout and roof light ideas
Comments (20)I think the above comments are all really valid regarding sloping the roof of the extension and joining the existing and new with glazing. This is a really nice way to bring some light into the middle area - adding a window here is also worthwhile if possible if you are end of terrace. The Planners may allow you to have a view out as well as light as long as it is not overlooking. Your current lantern location also doesn't align with either the dining table or island, which may look a little off balance. Also remember to consider the location of any lighting so it doesn't clash with your glazing; pendants and spotlights as these will be what give you ambience and should provide atmosphere and task lighting. We did a similar project recently, extending an existing victorian terrace to house a kitchen/diner. We actually added flat roof lights along the long wall, giving natural light and views over the kitchen workspace and dining area. Would you like a half hour interior design consultation for some friendly one-to-one advice? We have a couple of slots each week for £125+vat. The consultation includes a friendly video chat to talk through your space and discuss your project ideas and needs. I follow up the video call with digital moodboards tailored to your budget, a layout suggestion and product recommendations. I will also follow up with a phone call....See MoreSteve Morrow Kitchens
