1908 Arts & Crafts House Interior Door Dilemma
Comments (14)Well 6 years have flown by and I still have a door dilemma! We have decorated the hall/stairs/landing and replaced the cloakroom and WC door with oak ledge and brace doors to match upstairs as advised on here. We still detest the white Georgian looking doors which don't match anything else in the house but don't want a solid ledge and brace as it would make an already dark hallway even darker. Could anyone suggest an oak glazed style door and handle that would tie in with the ledge and brace please? Thanking you all in advance....See MoreArts & Crafts Master Bedroom ideas
Comments (13)I think you could have got away with it although lovely to use it for your room! I think (!) you have just about enough room for curtains as there won't be much material to stack back although you may need to use end caps rather than finials on the eaves side. My only worry Is that it could make the wall seem shorter but try it with sheets first as I do like the look as per my first pic and would have the same layout with bed where it is and move your chests under the window. I like the other pelmet but it doesn't allow the blinds to show unless you block light so might remove it. I mistakenly thought you had the grape version of the fabric so might look at a grey velvet bed or even a green one or I do like the rattan ones. The one pictured is from the French bedroom company. I managed to get one for my spare room in it's raw state off eBay for £270 and then I painted it myself. If you could store the laundry elsewhere this was my idea for a leaner mirror opposite the window but with a low upholstered bench/settle in front. The dressing table looks as if it was made to measure and good for storage? I might paint it a lighter shade, change the mirror for something a little more delicate and add a stool...See Morearts and crafts
Comments (3)Hi HU-311761423 , looks like your new home is going to be lovely with all the character! Sometimes when a room is dark it is best to go down that route as it suits the room and even painting it light it will always have a dark element. An option could be painting or stripping the wood lighter, but we have seen your comment about liking the dark wood. Comments (7)It doesn’t seem like the black oak and render was an original choice. I wonder if the lower part was originally brick or if the upper part was originally wood but it was painted to disguise its aging. And if I’m honest I don’t like the black either as it is too close to the roof colour which makes the house seem top heavy and the lovely windows disappear. Given the house age I would be investigating it’s insulation and wondering if the cladding needs to be removed and insulation added to the outside. You then of course have a blank canvass. Personally I think the cottage windows, the eyebrow roofline and the stonework around the front door are lost with a dark colour. I’m aware of course there is a budget consideration but I would be considering replacing the windows with similar looking hertitage windows but perhaps in a colour. And I would be looking at removing the wood cladding and rendering the whole lot....See MoreLiz Moor
