Need help incorporating a corner home office in family room

I currently have a black corner desk in my family room and need help in making over my mini office! My family room was recently renovated and the colors are different shades of greys, purples and beige. I would love to utilize one corner of the room as my home office but need much help! Ideas of a functional desk and storage would be greatly apprecated. I am not sure how any of you designers out there feel about shelves but storage is key.

You could conceal some storage by building it into the wall, like this:

I think it would be important to keep all the colors consistent throughout. Your family room is grey, purple and beige, your office storage should coordinate in order to keep it from standing out.

Ok, been a while but we have (slowly) but doing some things. 1) New kitchen shelves and new wall mounted spice rack (ikea picture shelves), 2) New white unit at the back of kitchen (with new coffee machine on it) 3) Mirror on the wall about white unit 4) Two new more modern ceiling flights to replace the chandeliers 5) Painted the entire room myself, except the ceiling as you can see. I simply don't have a ladder tall enough to get up there as the ceilings are so high. 6) New PVC table cloth to stop my 8 month old ruining the wooden table. 7) To the left of the new white unit, got rid of wine fridge (did shed a tear) and bought a new standard fridge to help with the load of the other fridge - so we now have a fridge for veggies / fruit and my sons food and one for meat / drinks/ cheese etc The result, i think, is a much nicer, lighter and spacious room and we've managed to create a hell of a lot more cupboard and fridge space for ourselves which was much needed. I hated the old chandeliers and i'm delighted with the new lights we chose. I'll do some better photos soon but wanted to update this. Thanks to all who made comments and suggested things ! (of course all the entire apartment is 100% High CRI Dimmable LED Lights (my own company). Chris

Hi Alf, I like what you've done with your room - great use of space. Where the guinea pig cage is you could definitely fit a seating area. I would suggest having a corner sofa piece (you can get smaller ones, and separate sections that you put together/can move around). I would go very modern and clean, you don't have to spend a lot of money. Painting the walls white would be a cheap and easy way to brighten the space. The add personality with accessories, art work and bedlinen. Have a look at our Ikea hacks https://www.thedesignerandthedecorator.co.uk/journal/diy-furniture Ikea Rast chest of drawers could make nice bedsides. Also for wardrobe, You could install an open hanging system from ikea like the photo below Or with a little bit of budget Sharps wardrobes could make a custom wardrobe around the bed And a lift up storage bed also helps with a small space

Hello! Wow! Thank you very much for your advice. So, there is a radiator on the right hand wall. That is where current owners put their tv. Not sure it will fit, will measure up soon hopefully. The TV could go on a smaller unit to be honest, and will make sure radiator is turned down! Just worried that there isn't enough room for a corner sofa there with the door to the hallway..(see photos on rightmove) I LOVE the idea of large mirrors either side of fireplace. Pinching that! ;) My current living room is decorated in shades of greys and lots of gold. Thinking of going navy and gold but not too sure. Sofa colours argh! Huge thanks I'm very grateful. Katie

Hi...wellll..if you're keeping the black desk..perhaps change the color of the desk top with either a writing mat or green glass..the black seems heavy and a change on that would be good. its tough keeping the desk area "not cluttered"...perhaps a cherry/canvas privacy screen or opacue sliding panels....I like to use a vertical row of small cubbies as legs for a desk top and a horizontal row at eye level while seated
