Kitchen Cabinets: Take them white or darker wood?

We are going to have our cabinets refinished. Should I stain the wood darker or take them off-white? Will probably contrast the island. Floor is staying the same. Countertops are staying the same. Backsplash is coming out and will probably be replaced with subway tile. Ideas?

If you're going to use subway tile (which I love!) I would definitely use off white on the cabinets. Make sure the finished color on the cabinetry will blend (not necessarily match) the subway tile you choose.

It's entirely a personal preference. I'd look at Houzz photos of white cabinets with black appliances first to see if you like that much contrast.

Hello webuser_348360, Reeve.. because they are one of my trade companies... Their wood is really lovely.. I have all their samples displayed in my bedroom which is a feature on the design page on my website! I thought that you might like to look at a variety of lovely colours and textures that might be of interest, as there's so much more than just a natural coloured floor..... With the chalky whites... Acre, Shirting and White Lead are all lovely creamy warm whites.. Also Slaked Lime, but it's less creamy and can appear cool... LG is low VOC and water based.. so nice for the environment and easy on the brushes! : ))

Nice! I like Groningen, have some great friends from there. I bought my kitchen from keuken kampioen. So I don't give it a bad name. . . since my original post, customer service has really gone out of their way to see if there is something they could do. The cabinet shape I chose is in the example on the front page. Of course mine are magnolia and not white. Flooring dilemma and my white kitchen!

It's not the room on its own as such. I like how the kitchen looks but it's the disconnected feeling with the rest of the space. I have a bit of a strange layout. My hallway (is a room) the stairs are in this room and the front door. Off this room is the kitchen, theres a door to the left of the on an angle to the living room, another door immediately next to the living room door to a cloakroom area, bedroom and bathroom. On the other side of the hall it is open plan to the dining room which is open plan to the conservatory. Since we knocked the kitchen wall down 5 years ago (and put bi-folds in) we have lived with the doors open (wasn't the plan initially but all seemed to work and looked good). I was really hoping to keep the open plan aspect but right now its not to be. I absolutely loathe the doors in their open position now that they are white. They almost seem 'caravan' like. I think another issue is because there used to be a wall there, the kitchen floor tiles start a bit set back and prior to this last hallway / downstairs floor there was almost like a wooden sill / thresher but since they fitted the herringbone lvt the hall floor extends to the kitchen. (I will get a wide floor thresher / wood piece put back in. I know this sounds extreme, but this whole thing has really affected me. Probably the only thing we've had control over during the pandemic is our home and I was sad that I wrecked it with an awful floor. And then the doors. I will post photos of the entire space tomorrow but bare in mind the herringbone floor in the photos is the one that is 100% going .

I agree...entirely personal preference. I love white cabinets but probably wouldn't have them with your countertops and black appliances. Subway tiles will look great.

Not sure I'd go with white - rather a off-white to stay with the warmth in your floor and granite. Get some black or dark cardboard and put infant of your island. It's rather large and in very dark color it may not look the way you imagine.
