How can you tell what pro you are listed as?

Hello,
Im confused as to how I set us as a pro? or whether we are down as something already?

Hi there,

When you signed up, you will have been asked to choose a professional category that describes your business. If you click on the 'Your Houzz' icon, and then the little 'Preview your public profile' icon in the top right-hand corner of the page, you can see what you're listed as when people view your profile. Currently you're under the 'Kitchen Designers & Fitters' category. Hope that helps!

Hello Emmeline, I think a professional should be adaptable, able to intuit and interpret the clients needs and that of their home or space worked on. Having a range of skills is obviously as important as is their particular skill set. Respect and trust goes both ways. Whether you're a whole turnkey service or not.. That doesn't matter.. All that matters is that all the parties involved in the project are working together with full information, budgets, requirements and respect for each other and the client. Now a little note on newer pro's and companies.. For companies or Pro's that are "new" emerging etc etc as nobody talks about this in a positive light from what I have read here.. Years of experience and so forth are nothing if there's no skill.. There are plenty of new companies that A don't have years of experience B masses of clients etc etc.. but as with any company or professional that has say 10-15 years experience or more.. I'd be looking less at the longevity, "experience" and more at their skill, flair and how they carry themselves.. It's no good being told someone has 20 years experience if they're terrible at what they do.. As with every pro or company everyone was new at some point. I had recently been told by someone gleefully he had 15 years experience in his trade... His work was the worst I have ever seen! For me... Skill, creativity, kindness and flair! : ))

I only remove fresh items from fridge but leave jars etc I tidy but don't clean I usually put fresh linen on bed day before we leave so come back to a nice bed I arrange all the blinds / curtains so open but not fully open I set all the light timers I leave a key with neighbours and let a SMALL number of neighbours know As we are about to leave I put bleach in all the toilets If it is a taxi firm we don't know ( try to use same one each time) as I leave I talk to and wave at imaginary children and then discuss imaginary children with husband when we set off "will they remember to ...hope they visit .....etc" As we are about to leave I put bleach in all the toilets

I agree with above - you're going to have a lovely bright utility! The usual way people extend is to put the utility and WC into the darkest bit (turning the utility 90 degrees like suggested above) which then pushes the kitchen/dining/living towards the garden end. But that would have involved more walls coming down - I feel like this is a case of you got what you asked for, but now you're asking for something else. I think the architect has come up with the best layout though for minimal work involved - putting the dining table in the dark space will just make it a corridor and you'll mostly eat at the island in the light room with garden views (other than dark evenings like you say when being in dark dining room will be quite cosy). I know people who have done that and regretted it and wished they'd put the kitchen in the dark bit as you tend to be doing something in there anyway and you'll be looking through the lovely bright space rather than being in it. Getting a decent second living space seems important to you so the current layout achieves that. You could perhaps add some high level transom windows between kitchen and utility to bring more light into kitchen (depending on where tall/wall kitchen cabinets are going to be and how ceiling is). Another option that you haven't mentioned is to put the new lounge into the dark space (then you'd have to call it a snug!). Leaving the new space as kitchen and dining. But perhaps you want the sofas to be looking onto garden, or you don't want it right next to the other sitting room - which is understandable. So it depends on what you'd use that living space for - or would also having a couple of upholstered chairs or a window seat in the extension allow you the flexibility you are looking for? Regarding the loo situation - I don't like having to walk through the utility to get to it (mainly as you're going to have to clean/tidy your utility every time guests come round, no thanks) - alternative is to walk through the WC to get to utility - would result in a bigger WC (you don't want to squeeze between toilet and basin so put them on the same wall) and a more useful utility space - and you'll have one window into WC and one into utility and nobody will be walking through the cat litter tray - could keep the pocket door idea so that it's more like one room normally, but easy to close off the messy utility when guests arrive (if that is ever allowed to happen again!)
