Bathroom dilemma

We have galvanised mini orb lining our main bathroom walls ( top half ) totally out of character for our 60 year old farmhouse. We want to paint it to cut down the stark visual effect what is the best way and product to use?

Is it metal/steel?

If so there's 2 main options.

1) a straight-on-surface paint which primes, undercoats and gloss in one. Basically put it straight on, when it dries apply a second coat. That's it. Google Brantho korrux.

2. Zinnser bin sealer, shellac. Apply one coat, then apply whatever finish of paint you want over the top. I doubt it will need 2 coats of zinnser but it won't hurt.

Both are about £100 for 5 litres, but each has benefits and draw backs.

Why is the layout "a pain?" I think that this is a good layout. If this is your only bathroom I would suggest when you remodel hanging a door to seperate bath/loo area from the sink area. That way somebody can have a bath or be using the toilet in privacy whilst the other person is having a wash, cleaning teeth etc. It may be a small space but the potential is huge - you could really transform and define each area with clever lighting.

I agree that the vaulted ceiling would be out of proportion although you could do what the Victorians used to do- have a skylight and therefore a light filled space above the room and then a window in the ceiling of your bathroom. Sun tunnels seem like a cheaper alternative but the only one I saw didn't deliver (kinda like early energy saving light bulbs- promised to be bright but really you needed five to replace a conventional bulb)

Hi Nicola, Great idea to keep a bath in your property for your future and resell value. This type of layout would typically require more space but not impossible. You’d need to move the door to the right to achieve this with bath to the left as u walk in. Is there scope to increase the size of the room into the hallway? I would really appreciate some 'tile' advice.I live in 2 bedroomed 1930's terraced house. I want to update my bathroom but have a dilemma. The wall tiles surrounding the bath need to be replaced. The problem is that I can't seem to find ones that tone in with my current floor (mix of black and an off cream). I have already picked up some samples of cream metro tiles, slate black ones and other colours such as green and blue.Would I just be better off changing the floor tiles as well or should I just go for a complete overhaul?I will post a picture shortly to give you an idea.
