Location of users

We are new to the Houzz family and would like to know if it is possible to identify the location of Houzz users, particularly those who are looking for product suppliers, or trying to source the services of a professional. I've noticed that the home page of some people looking for advice appear to show they are in the United States!!

Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome on board! Unfortunately, there is no way of finding users the same way you can find professionals (i.e. in a directory). People who participate in the Advice section are generally from the UK, as US and Aussie users will be directed to the US site or the Australian site. The right location should appear on their on their profile, however you might have discovered a bug, so we will take a closer look.

Hi Emmeline, thank you for clarifying that for us. It came about when I wanted to see who had added one of our products to their Ideabook and I found it showed everyone's location as being in the USA.

There are many individuals who use the site looking for advice, to which I have responded on a couple of occasions but I had no way of telling where in the UK they were based. Have you considered making it a requirement that they add their location in their question. It may prompt more professionals to respond if they knew they were in their vicinity.

Houzz puts similar past dilemmas on the same screen to a current dilemma as a 'this is how we solved this one similar ' idea I guess ! If you add comment on it, it puts that old dilemma back in the current list ! It doesn't really matter - but that's why you sometimes see posts that are dated 2013 !! (Zombie threads !)

Hello donned2004, Well you could remove all the things from the hearth.. So it has more space.. Hang the mirror and paint the chimney breast a nice colour to bring the fireplace into full focus.. If you wanted to have an even bigger recess.. you could open the fire out up to the sides of the wooden surround.. So taking out the 30's tiles.. Make sure the lintel is in place or doesn't need replacing and keep the surround it's rather nice.. Remove the current tiled hearth if you chose to open it out more.. and install a flat piece of slate.. So then you would have an open brick recess and a lovely iron basket could sit nicely inside for logs! Another idea to continue into the room.. might be to look at painting the woodwork a colour to compliment any wall colours you have.... Some lovely painted floorboards, or parquet or a natural Jute or Coir flooring if you have not already decided upon something.. : ))

I have an old 70's style galley kitchen n utility, updating by changing, wall n floor tiles n keeping cupboards and ancient non Meile appliances - could really do with help with kitchen design as I need lots of storage space and having new appliances would be a dream as my dishwasher is on its last legs and no space currently for a fridge- this project has been going on since last Summer with builders letting us down we are still waiting for new builders to start -if I were to win a place to come to your appliance day it would be fab and if you need a kitchen to create your magic in , it would be a dream come true . I will be fasting throughout June as it will be Ramadan but I wanted to enter even though I wouldn't be able to eat anything because the experience is too good an opportunity for me to miss so any day would be ok as I am desperate to get help especially as my budget is so limited . Thank you for considering me . I believe in serendipity and feel fortunate to have come across this just in time as today is 16th! Have I said enough to get me a place I wonder ? Lol!

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the suggestion! I suppose some homeowners don't want to reveal their location as they are just looking for advice, regardless of where they live. However, I do understand that it is interesting for professionals to understand where potential clients live.

Remember that it's not just about the homeowner you are helping, but also those prospective clients who view your profile and can see how you interact with others. They are most likely to be local to you and definitely people you want to impress with your expert knowledge and friendly manner!
