Teal or keep it safe beige sofa?

Hi,

I am redecorating my whole living room and have just got new flooring. I need a new sofa and loving all the velvet fabric ones. I do usually go quite neutral, with beiges and cream. But I really like the teal velvet sofas I've seen on here.

My only worry is that my flat is not the brightest so teal could be quite dark. But on the up side it is probably more practical. Beige on the plus side is more neutral and easily matched with accessories but not as practical! such a dilemma please help?!

Teal would look lovely against your flooring. I'm biased as my sofa is teal and I love it. Be brave!

These additional pictures might help. the oak tv cabinet is destined for the dump. The white built in cabinets will go across the whole of the wall the tv is on now from one wall to the other. In the process they will swallow up the existing built in cabinet and the sticking out bit of wall where the room was extended at some stage in the past. the room is horribly bland at the moment. I hate it.

Hi. I love the cozy feel. I also agree it needs splashes of color. Also plants bring freshness and life into a space. Search around your home, start with the bowl for colour inspiration. Scarves, fabrics, pretty paper etc can be framed as cheap artwork. If you do not like it change it. My home is white from head to toe with splashes of bright colors and natural wood accents. I also move things around a lot to change the scene. Sometimes I use scarves as table cloths and fresh cut wild flowers and grasses in a pretty vase to bring the outdoor in.

If you want something a little softer then Mustard and grey can work well, you could use a bold mustard or a pale one depending on tastes. Same goes for pink and grey. Decide what paper style you like, Modern, bold, small print, large print, stripes, flowers??? Then work from there. You may be inspired with the colour scheme if you find a paper you like. For instance if you just google 'pink grey wallpaper' and look at images, this comes up:- If that's not to your liking try 'mustard grey wallpaper' They just help by giving you an idea of what you might like and what goes with what.

The floor is nice but the blue of the sofa will bring out the orange tones of the floor. I don't know if I'd go for something less warm. I filtered the same range under beige and there were a few nice ones but have just attached the one link. https://www.quick-step.co.uk/en-GB/laminate/impressive/im1854_soft-oak-light are you planning on taking the fire out given you've mentioned a tv unit? I'm not sure on the layout with the snuggler next to the sofa as it gives a waiting room feel, it feels cosier etc if a chair can be angled towards the sofa for conversation etc. That snuggler is also large and it may overwhelm the room with a dining table etc. Do you think you would open up the kitchen to dining at any point? Controversial but just thinking of swapping living and dining to keep the fire or moving the kitchen door if possible. Are there doors to the garden? I would also bear Ellie's advice in mind.

Agree with both, go for what you love. It also looks as if you have very little artificial lighting in the room? Adding some more lighting would help

Thanks for the comments. I mean safe in the sense that beige is more of a blank canvas for me to add cushions etc, and I also plan to have black furniture so again this might make the room darker.
