Using glass bricks as a bookshelf support

I have a very long "sun room" along the garden side of the house...basically it is a corridor with windows, but it is too narrow to accept any real furniture.

So I am looking for examples of long, about waste-high bookshelves. I am looking to use partly glass shelves and partly oak shelves and then pepper up the supporting glass brick columns with a few coloured pieces (bronze?) to match also the wood, rather than glass dominating all through.

Hi. I can't find bookcases but just another idea. You could have a narrow console table with decorative items on top and then add a couple of ceramic garden stools and dot plants on the floor and from the ceiling. I can only find this image from cheapdecorideas which is similar to what I mean but obviously this is a big room. Alternatively there are lots of narrow benches around.

Thanks Minnie, having trawled through 176.000 images on the web and 560 projects on Houzz I feel that I need to persist. I am now approaching it from the materials end; I guess the "visual" will have to come from pen and paper (never been very good at sketching).

Hi, in that space I would put a nice relaxing framed print and beneath it a shaker style shelf with pegs to hang pretty scarves or hats or bags. I have one in my utility room between two cupboards and it gives a lovely feel to the room as well as being useful. Mirrors are not good feng shui opposite a bed and although shoe storage is great it might be too much between the wardrobes. Pretty colours!

The access door would have to be moved forward a bit and be made narrower to accommodate it. I was discussing it with the husband tonight as we could potentially cut another door from the other side (ie what wil be the 2nd bedroom) and hide that in a wardrobe as secret storage area. The opening would have to be narrow but still wide enough to walk theough but you wouldnt see it from the bedroom then. Got to get a price though as its brick on the other side and it would need a lintel. Nothing is ever straight forward. Ha ha

hi there. best option to have most light in you would like to have is to install a nice and full width bifold door. they are juicy on price but not horrible expensive. bathroom refurb usually can cost you about up to 5k£ just to take in consideration bifold door would be about 3k£ including installation your extension would be about 16k£ because of a limited access and I'm not to sure what sort of refurb are involved too as haven't seen all existing drawings. kitchen assume about 2.5k£ incl installation for a decent mid range stuff flooring painting and other bits and pieces can be about up to 3k£ in the new and existing area dpc issue can be sorted with A, as you mention lower a ground 150mm B, install new dpc 150mm above the ground and joint it together with a new extension and tank out externally by the side of a building. that would be another 3-4k£ job if you would like to refurb your diner area too that can be about 600£/m2. as i don't know the exact area just can give you an average cost per a m2. in a first place thats what i can see realistic. in total
