Alcoves at each side of a chimney breast, nee to incorporate TV etc coming out at slight angle

Cupboards at the bottom and shelving above is the obvious choice. Either get a joiner in to build bespoke or have a look at Jali: http://www.jali.co.uk/ you can customise bookcases or cupboards to your exact measurements and specifications, prices are not bad.

We have used two tall chest of drawers by attaching them together to create one large chest and using it to separate our bedroom from the living room. It is at the foot of our bed. It looks lovely in our flat!

The venetian blinds are very nice...had some like that in the last place from Hilarys blinds, might shop around for something like those. The other ones...what's the name for that type of pull down blind? They look good but not sure how they would offer privacy and still let the light in. Will check ikea storage boxes too. They are too pricey but really like these from John Lewis: http://www.johnlewis.com/minene-large-striped-storage-box-blue Cannot really justify around £250 on several storage boxes though....having a look for any on ebay but no joy yet. My friend had a huge blank wall (no window) with a rubbishy, non original, fireplace, and she decided to buy a big shelving unit from Ikea and removed the fireplace. I was sceptical but it looks amazing and it houses her tv, books and ornaments. The room is decorated in soft grey and yellow and the unit is white so it doesn’t look too heavy. I haven’t got a picture of hers but it’s something like this ( first pic is Ikea).

Excellent idea there by @Jonathan. You'd have to move the radiator (or perhaps change it to a column and place in the corner?) but it'd be a nicer placement of the bed, better paths around the room and way more storage. Personally, I'd go one less wardrobe and have the vanity table and chair parallel to the bed with a large wall mirror and overhead shelves If you want a simpler option, option 1 looks the best solution.
