Master Bedroom ensuite

Building a new house UK and wanting to make the master suite special
as is a development for selling upon completion. Room is rectangle
shape, 5.8m x 8m long.

room will have vaulted ceilings - open right up into eaves but smooth
finish so no beams showing, There is a walk in wardrobe area 2m wide
and 8m long and 3.5m high with skylights. There is an ensuite with
freestanding bath, glassed in shower.

Agents advise against
putting a glass fronted hole in the wall fire on one side of the room
w/comfy sofa area. Said better to keep neutral so someone can divide
room into another bedroom. There is a balcony to rear with 2.5m sliding
doors, large windows on front elevation. Room is rectangle shape.

I'm not an expert so take views accordingly but presumably the master suite is in proportion and spec with the remainder of the house? If it's a wow house then it's deserving of a wow master suite. If for example it's a modest size house with a huge master and one other standard size bedroom then I understand their comment re dividing the space. I don't really see a fire as being non-neutral, if their concern is division of the space, does it easily divide with the rest of the features in the room? Who also is your target market?

Hello,

Minnie was right and it sounds like you have a spacious home. It all sounds amazing what you have written of the master room and you should not consider what you were told.

The new buyer may fall in love with that lovely size of room, why they would wanna divide it? We all like spacious homes.

We are doing the same. weve done our build in 2 phases so weve just conpleted the single storey rear extension and about to start building the double storey in April. Although we are making our front box room bigger by taking it out over the new attached garage to make hopefully 4 double bedrooms. the room will only be 2.38m wide and around 4.3m long with a 90cm space for a shower, toilet and sink. hoping it works and the above from man about the house gives me hope it will as i plan to do something similar with a small area at the back literally for the bed and some bedside tables then a small walk through wardrobe area and then a thin ensuite. will decide where to put stud walls once the shell and floor in built so i can determine the space needed.

I also can't tell the scale, but would have built in wardrobes either side of the chimney (shrink the bedside tables!), a dressing table in front of the window. Walk in shower where the bath is currently. Could the bath be angled in front of the spiral staircase at all? Looks like a space with loads of potential.

Hi Emily, here are some pictures This is the corridor, we have tried to show the step back between the two walls, there is 877mm behind the mirrored doors. This is the end of the bedroom we proposed moving the bathroom to This end is where we thought the dressing area could go, blocking the first door from the corridor. We have taken down the stud wall that used to divide the room. En-suite which we proposed combining with corridor to make bedroom with door from landing at far end of en-suite. Any ideas would be gratefully received as we are going round in circles with our ideas. Thanks Amanda

Listen to the agents. I've lost alot of buyers because of personal taste issues in my "forever" houses, when I sold. Put a fire that is not built into the wall, and therefore more easily removed. Ethanol or gas is good for that.
