what cabinet base did they use for the portion that sticks out?

I want to have my apron sink stick out a bit and have ordered this door sample. What adaptions did they do to make this stand out?

Hello. In order to achieve this look, all you do is install the cabinet 3 to 4" forward from the rest and use fillers, panels, or posts. In this picture, this was don with a drawer base unite. For an apron sink, the sink base itself will need to modified to make sure the height of the sink is flush with the counter top. I would say that almost any colour can go with wood but not all shades of any colour. It tends to work best with more complex / less intense colours. So sage green or grey/blue would go well, but lime green or bright blue wouldn't go so well. Sage or grey/blue are usually available in off-the-shelf Shaker style doors, which you have there. They also go well with other subdued colours, so you could have either of those mixed with cream or pale grey. I wouldn't mix blue and green as you seem to have in your picture above, though, but that might just be my tastes. Also, I was extremely underwhelmed by the quality of oak worktops. They use a fast growing species (there are several species of oak) which has very little character and often a rather nasty orange tint. I chose a birch worktop from B&Q instead, which is much cheaper and has an amazing 'tigers eye' effect once oiled - absolutely no regrets there, my worksurface looks way better than my brother's more expensive oak one. Lastly, I did a lot of research and chose Fiddes Hard Wax Oil to finish the worksurface. Do not skimp on the finish, I've known people who have and they've univerally regretted it. I am extremely pleased with the Fiddes, water can sit on there as long as it wants and never sinks in. I know 2 people who chose different worktop oil brands and they have to wipe water off within 5 minutes or it leaves a mark.

Here's an update on the work. I've finished the pebbledash first coat, and the painter did the fascias, soffits, door and window. The green I chose came out a lot darker than I thought, but never mind. What do you think? What's left to do is add some nice pots in front, put up the guttering (I'm going to do that now), another coat of the white masonry paint, and of course the most important part, put a cat image in the window!

Hi Tacey, The clean white form of the kitchen looks lovely, its a nice room. You definitely need lights above the wall units, this will bounce off the ceiling and into the room. At the risk of being too direct, throw the green paint away, you don't need it.. If you want colour in this room use the glass display cabinet and put some beautiful coloured glass in there. I sometimes put Japanese inspired flower arrangements on the middle of islands to add a modern structure and punch some colour in. The advantage to both of these methods is that you can change the colour scheme when ever you like. One idea that would transform the room: Put an American shutter up on the window. White with wide 80mm slats. Make sure the slat control is concealed, don't let them sell you a shutter with that awful rod down the middle. This will look amazing in this room. If you really fancy being adventurous mirror the window wall around the shutters above the splash back. You will need to make templates and have the mirror cut to those to ensure a perfect fit. Visually the room will double in size as your eye is tricked into seeing the furniture repeated as a reflection. Are you keeping the window in the Breakfast room or opening it up to the courtyard? If leaving as a window and the rooms are wide enough you could possibly take a row of Tall units down the left side of current kitchen, so thats the oven, larder and built in Fridge freezer, then continue down that wall into the Breakfast room with Large Pan Drawers, hob, sink, dishwasher, washing machine. Have low & narrow units opposite the tall units to create a window seat & great for storage. With fold up tables you could use the window seat for additional dining. A long dining table opposite the sink area in the current breakfast room with bench seats depending on width of the room. downside of this design is the distance to get things out of fridge and the need to ensure a work top is near the oven. Just trying to think out of the box I hate the same old look kitchens. you do need a good 3D image to imagine the look, Good luck.
