lighting for stairwell

I'm looking for a very modern pendant or chandelier lamp for a deep stairwell. I have fallen in love with those at www.curiousandcuriousa but at £2000+ are out of my budget, I am trying to find something similar at a budget price!

Hello lindac3,

Yes they are lovely!! I know of some similar lovely lights by Nigel Coates called Jolly Lights.. They are more playful in their suggested design and quite possibly equal in the price bracket.. I will ask.. The means of stringing each piece which are hand blown gives rise to the cost involved... I have not found any that come close to either in a budget bracket.. . : ))

We have hung a large mirror In a key place, to reflect light coming into the stairwell. We installed a skylight above the stairwell in the roof of a previous house. My dream would be to insert glass panels above the doors in our current stairwell, such as in these photos, but that would require a construction project.

Hi, I'm not sure if you're still looking for advice? If you have lots of pictures on a wall close together, then you can use a downlight designed to wall wash. These are the ones that I use: http://www.orluna.com/products/mini-family/mini-wall-wash-snoot-76mm Looking at the size of your hallways, you'd probably only need a couple per floor. I've attached a photo of 2 used to light a picture in a room with quite a low ceiling. With higher ceilings, the light is spread out more. Instead of keeping the lights on in the hallways, have you thought about using PIRs to switch the lights on when you walk under them? There are some discrete ceiling mount PIRs out there. I'm not sure where you're based, but if you let me know, I can try and point you in the right direction for a supplier of the LED down lights. Thanks Peter

Hi Pam, I’m really sorry to hear about your fire. On a brighter note, I suppose at least you can start from scratch and have your space exactly as you want it. For the cascading lights, it’s difficult to advise on styles as it is subject to taste. However, if you’re looking for something modern I would consider suspending multiple individual pendants from the ceiling - either in a cluster like the Tom Dixon beauties in the first image below or in varying heights like the stunning Bocci 14 pendant in the second image. Regarding your lower ceiling, semi flush pendants are a great option as you can have something decorative whilst still retaining your ceiling height.
