Kitchen worktop colour

Hi,
I'm doing up our new house and have ordered howdens burford grey kitchen (it's like a grey mild sage colour) my dilemma is what colour granite to have. We are having a light coloured tiled floor and also have a light coloured wood on the breakfast bar. The other worktop space is 6m and I'm worried if I have black granite (my husbands choice) it will look too dark, we are not having wall units on one wall just shelves.

What colour would you have ?

Not black granite! Been there, regretted it. Something warmer in colour maybe?

Have you had a look at quartz (silestone, compac, cimstone etc)? They offer a lot of white coloured stone and it has the features of granite worktops with the look, feel and touch but they come without the added maintenance of granite worktops. Wood worktops compliment light coloured kitchens but they do come with extra maintenance that if not kept up to scratch will make the wood look nasty after a while. Corian is a solid surface material that comes with various white/grey/light colourways and a key thing that makes it popular is that the joins are invisible, so it looks like one giant piece. Personal preference and a lot of pictures will get you an idea of what it is you want. There are quite a lot of options out there so make sure you take some time to research each worktop material and brand.

In my opinion it is the saturation level of the paint that is the problem. The beauty of your kitchen is the natural flooring and the wooden worktops, it looks earthy. This is swamped by the blue paint, it just looks wrong. Without seeing the cupboard door colours close up it is tricky but I would suggest looking for something a bit darker than the cupboards but with the same hue. If you want a strong contrasting wall a deep olive green would work as it would balance the wood and the purpley greys.

Look at Earthstone as a quartz alternative. It’s a 6mm solid surface wrapped around a chipboard core, so it has most of the advantages of a solid/quartz surface at a fraction of the price. It can be shaped and sanded, left matte (which is what I did) or polished to a high gloss. I’m really, really impressed with mine—cost around £1300 for two long lengths plus breakfast bar AND delivery to Northern Ireland. Looks like Worktops Express don’t do it anymore, but available elsewhere.

Showed every tiny speck of dust, and, as it was a polished finish, it also smeared when wiped with a clean cloth! I was constantly cleaning it. I had a very bright kitchen but it still made it somewhat dark. Looked lovely though :-)

I agree that black would be too dark, would go for something lighter or more charcoal
