Slim profile patio doors & windows that won't break the bank!

Hi All, i know i want these but have no idea how much they cost so i could be out of the game before i know it if they swallow up my remodelling budget. I love the stuff on IQ glass but am pretty sure it is beyond our reach! Any ideas and even better photos?

Hello donned2004, Well you could remove all the things from the hearth.. So it has more space.. Hang the mirror and paint the chimney breast a nice colour to bring the fireplace into full focus.. If you wanted to have an even bigger recess.. you could open the fire out up to the sides of the wooden surround.. So taking out the 30's tiles.. Make sure the lintel is in place or doesn't need replacing and keep the surround it's rather nice.. Remove the current tiled hearth if you chose to open it out more.. and install a flat piece of slate.. So then you would have an open brick recess and a lovely iron basket could sit nicely inside for logs! Another idea to continue into the room.. might be to look at painting the woodwork a colour to compliment any wall colours you have.... Some lovely painted floorboards, or parquet or a natural Jute or Coir flooring if you have not already decided upon something.. : ))

Living room with lots of doors and big empty space - help!

Hi lovely space and I love the way natural light floods in. I have a couple of suggestions: 1. Two rugs not one to add warmth and colour you could then have a smaller matching rug at the end of the room that you quite rightly call an empty space. 2. Consider using a bracket to move the television onto the wall. Your plan showing the TV on the right looks good but if you used that plan then the TV would look best above the fireplace...that may be too high for comfortable viewing though. 3. A floor lamp where the plant is would give light and extra interest to that far corner especially if the plant is large enough to be placed in front or slightly to one side of the lamp. 4. At least one other lamp table and lamp beside the sofa 5. The empty area....obviously tight for space when the French doors open into the lounge but you may be able to fit either a narrow console or a larger piece of art with a narrow shelf beneath to fill that wall. Coupled with the rug you will be surprised how that will be enough to allow freedom of movement through that space and yet make the room feel whole instead of in two parts. I like your mix of furniture style which makes it easier for you to consider using sites like Freecycle or Craig's list to acquire a few extra pieces without breaking the bank. And if hubby is good aT DIY a narrow shelf will be a doddle you could also check out Houzz for ideas how to make a large piece of art to go above it too

Thank you for your comments. I want to keep the door as we haven't had energy calcs done and with glass content I wanted to keep separate. Also, with a toddler and second baby on the way it would be handy to have a quiet room and also door to separate when open to garden in the evening. Love love the idea of pocket doors emmauk , as it provides the best of both worlds. I like this style in the picture. Do you have recommendations on companies and what would be required for installation? A joiner or upvc fitter? Thanks Leah

Shan M - I never did do the brick slips in the end! I managed to salvage a wall to the side of the kitchen so ended up just painting the back kitchen wall in the same colour as the units (well itt's a different tone due to the paint finish) and it's quite dramatic and I love it. If I had done brick slips, they would have gone on afterwards and been fitted around the units to save money. retrospectively, the brick slips cost the same as a full brick and although the original builder said it would be cheaper to tile with slips rather than to build a brick wall, the actual bricklayer (after he finished the job) disagreed! He said he could have done block work up the units and bricked all the exposed areas. Probably would have cost the same as tilers are not cheap! Doh.
