Awkward layout of dining/living room
Comments (10)I understand your issues with the outlets for the chandelier and the tv. I suggest that when you look at furniture for the room you consider its scale. Do NOT buy furniture that is oversized or too large for the space. Look at apartment scaled furniture so that I doesn't overwhelm the room. A scaled down couch, a comfortable chair, an ottoman that can serve as a coffee table or extra seating. Neutrals. You can always add color with an area rug that will look nice on your floors and pillows, art, etc. things that you can change out as your taste changes. I am curious if you have any electrical outlets in the center of your floor? It might be possible to float your couch with its back facing the north wall and the dining area, and facing out towards the windows and view. And then you could put your tv between the windows on a media stand and not on the north wall. In any event, one of those arc lights might be nice for this space, too. I like the odd point in your living room! It adds character to the space! Embrace it!...See MoreFirst home :0 Living room layout help?
Comments (27)And another person agreeing...DO keep the fireplace. People in the future will be grateful. It's the natural focal point, and the tiling looks original. What a gift! I love your ideas about dark colours, and the teal sofa suggestion is genius - teal references and tones with green but also subdues the effect. Two sofas is a great idea; its an elegant and efficient way to seat 4 and no-one ever wants to sit in the middle of a larger one - it makes conversation impossible. One tip is to place them NOT right against a wall if possible. Pull them into the room even if only a little way, making sure you have enough circulation space between them and a coffee table Paradoxically, space behind a sofa implies a larger room. Alternatively, and I know this works, you don't have to have a coffee table between them, but can use side tables. I also agree that a TV above a fireplace is a very bad idea. It looks unsophisticated, it's harder to change when you want a new, or no, TV, and the angle of viewing is all wrong. A big black screen is not what should dominate your sitting room - which is going to be great. How exciting to be planning your first home....See Moreliving room layout
Comments (46)Hi. I saw this sofa this morning which made me think of this thread. Not in a sofa bed version though unfortunately. https://www.heals.com/sofas/richmond.html?bx_profile=28e3-c5fe97-0086fa5c&om_campaign=omme_55bf6fa5-323_9227_52114&om_send=603981a514bc475cb7b4afc42e210bde&utm_campaign=omme_55bf6fa5-323_200621_sofacablight&utm_content=variation_a&utm_medium=email&utm_source=ometria...See MoreRectangle Living Room - New Layout Help
Comments (8)That's a lovely room, and I love the view out the back! It's a pity that your curtains are set up to block half of the bay windows. I'd put the curtain rod on the wall above the bay, extending it passed the bay so you can open the curtains fully. I also think there's too much going on with your furniture and accessories. For one, too much open shelving. Too many tables, too many heights of furniture. I agree with @John Pelosi that a media wall would help polish the space. If you go that route, I'd limit the open shelving. It's hard to say from the pictures, but you may be able to fit a longer sofa. This would make the room feel larger. Either way, I'd add side tables that are a bit lower than the armrests, and maybe a longer coffee table that is not much higher than the seat cushions. That said, I do like that you have multiple lamps and a couple of plants :)...See More- 8 years ago
