What satin/eggshell to paint wardrobes white that won't go yelllow?1
Comments (5)Hi Nell51. I have done lots of painting recently and have used both oil based and water based paints. We live in a house with lots of conker coloured varnish and I too prepped it with Zinsser Bin. I then used Rustins water based undercoat to further obliterate the dark wood. The oil based paint I would highly recommend is Little Green. I have never used such good quality paint before and there is a great choice of colours (we opted for Portland Stone pale eggshell). I have also used Farrow and Ball eggshell (Shadow White) which is water based and therefore shouldn't yellow. However I discovered a whole new vocabulary of expletives whilst doing this as it was like painting with PVA glue. Even though I used the right brush and have a lot of experience of painting I found it awful to use. I then discovered a product called Owatrol which is a waterborne paint conditioner. You add it to the F&B paint and it increases flow and becomes more like an oil based paint. It is the best product I have ever discovered and worth every penny. My language has improved too. Hope this helps....See MorePoor installation of white hex tiles in bathroom
Comments (6)Hi Catherine, Although the tiler could have done a better job of grouting (which should be easy enough to clean and tidy up) it may actually be the mosaics causing some of the visible gaps. These mosaics are glued to a mesh sheet which is usually 300mm x 300mm. It seems from the photos that it’s not just the joints from each sheet but also a few rogue hexagons within the sheets that is causing the visible gaps. An expert tiler may repair as he lays but from experience very few are that meticulous and would argue they are not paid to be. Not what u want to hear. Understandably u want your bathroom to be perfect after investing so much time and money in it. But to be honest I think once the grout is tidied a bit (you could regrout in a different colour as well) then you’ll be very happy and it’s one of those things that no one else would notice anyway. I hope it all works out to your satisfaction. Best Regards Sam...See MoreHelp with bathroom colour - looks washed out
Comments (7)Thanks so much for the replies everyone and very sorry for the delay in coming back. One final question if you don't mind - the other bathroom (not pictured) is north facing but looks straight onto a grassy bank which does get a lot of sun - as a result if you look at the window it's just green which reflects into the room and it seems a very odd colour. Would something with a red tone on the walls help neutralise this do you think? PS. the big white bin in all the images is a nappy bin which hopefully won't be around for much longer!...See MoreShould I paint my staircase white?
Comments (12)I recently sanded back my staircase to wood and painted it white with valspar Blue fedora on the hand rail. Lots of work but I wanted to get rid of the gloss that yellow way too quickly. I think a two toned approach would look stunning. I found a couple of pics on Pinterest that has similar spindles to yours. zinsser BIN shellac base primer is the way to go as Jonathan suggests as it also has a stain blocker to prevent bleed through of your current stain. I would also recommend sanding between coats of the primer and occasionally spraying your brush with water as the primer can be a bit flddly wo work with as it dries really fast...See MoreMarble and Granite, Inc.
