Using wallpaper In the bathroom

I'd love to use wallpaper in our bathroom but my husband is convinced the heat and steam would cause it to peel easily. What tips could you share about doing this? Thanks!

I used midge podge over scrapbook sheets in a bathroom in our home, never peels ...ever, even with no vent and the door closed

You could also, give it a coat of watered down PVA, which will dry with a very slight sheen, but make it waterproof x

A belated THANK YOU to everyone who commented. This is the final result. We're super happy with it. Room A north facing "through-lounge" in a new build, 3 bed semi detached house Paint Walls: Purbeck Stone, Farrow & Ball Ceiling: Strong White, Farrow & Ball By the way, the room isn't as long and skinny as it looks in the photos. Painting it all one colour actually made it feel much, much larger. We were really impressed with the quality of advice the F&B staff gave us in regards to colour. We loved Purbeck Stone from the minute we saw it, and being brave really paid off.

Wallpaper is fine, I've used it for years. Just make sure you have a few rows of tiles round the bath and basin to keep splashes away. The first house we had it in we used a protective coating, but not in the last two. The current good quality paper, a Morris & Co paper from Sanderson, has been up about 15 years and the only problem has been peeling by the window where external damp gets in! Of course if you use a shower attachment on the bath you'll need more tiling, or if you have very splashy children. Good luck!

When we seal our microcement for bathrooms we use a two pack polyurethane. We use either matte, satin or gloss. Nothing gets through that and it's really hard wearing. So yes, as tamp75 rightly said, it can be sealed. Just make sure you give the product the right amount of time to cure before it gets wet. Also, use a high quality mask as the fumes will make you sick. good luck :)

If the room is well ventilated and the wallpaper is hung well then humidity shouldn't cause any problems! Plus a well chosen wallpaper can really add the 'wow' factor to a bathroom.
