backyard retaining wall

we have a backyard that is in a ravine lot but has a slope going down and needs a retaining wall we want to find out the best way of doing retain wall in order to do landscaping with a pool and designing because its a walkout basement and want a large deck on top that can get incorporated into the backyard design

Hello, Well when we extended into our garden, we had about 10' left - of which 3'4 was taken up with sheds running along the back wall. We decked the whole remaining space and added fake full size mirrors onto the facing sheds to make the garden look bigger. Have you got a photo of yours? What look do u want? Well, you have plenty of issues there to deal with. :) The best way to deal with compacted soil at your lawn is to get a proper aerator, run it over the lawn, remove all arisings and then fill in the holes by raking in a sand, topsoil, grass seed mix. The sand will help keep the soil aired and non-compacted while the topsoil will retain moisture for the grass seed. The worst lawn areas (e.g. underneath tree) I would consider turning into low maintenance planting beds, You can use evergreen perennials like turf-lily, which will grow in those harsh conditions, without giving you more gardening work. Finally, find attached an example of really cute, easy to build, pallet seat/loungers. These ones are by an austrian company (palettenmoebel.at).

Hi ED, Thanks! Yep the eye of faith is crucial with winter garden makeovers! It'll be loads more plant dominated in a year or two. There's already a pump in the pond, which works as a standalone fountain, but can be adapted to power a cascade on the wall behind. We're having all sorts of whacky ideas like building a 'marble run' style sculpture incorporating all our favourite things, (archaeology, sci fi etc) or a commissioned metal sculpture that looks like a steel version of Virginia creeper.

There are several moss killers you could try. Moss and algae thrives in wet, dank and shady areas. It rarely grows in sunny spots. So…….get that tap replaced and then purchase some moss killer, there are loads online.
