Simple close board post and rail fence.
Comments (2)They are slightly cheaper in terms of materials. The arris rail (which is the rail that runs horizontally and is used to secure the vertical close board on to) come in 3 metre lengths, so you only need a post every 3 metres. Therefore over a long run you have a 20-30% reduction in post numbers. The close board comes in 1.8 metre lengths and was precut in the saw mill to 0.9metres. I screwed the close board on, but others use a labour saving nail gun. Overall the labour times is cut also. Its also easier to maintain as a damaged close board can be removed (hence the preferred use of screws) very inexpensively rather than going to the expense if a whole new fence panel. This 5.5metre run is about 6 hours work for 1 man....See MoreGarden space design dilemma + fence privacy
Comments (7)You need to know the orientation of your garden before you plant anything. Where do you get morning sun, where do you get evening sun? If you want to use the trellis you will have to put some tension wires along the wall to help your climber reach it, unless you grow something like ivy which will cling without support, but in the long term will undermine your wall. There are quick growing climbers and often younger plants take root quicker than larger ones, because the larger ones can resent being moved. Try not to be in too much of a hurry. Half the fun is in the doing and watching things grow....See MoreGarden fence dilemma
Comments (8)Oooh... lovely! I always wondered what volcanic ash looks like, now I know:). Fence does seem a bit in your face but if you leave it it will age to a weathered silver over time. If you do want to paint it dark then I agree with other comments that it would look best with lots of green foliage in front. I’d perhaps go for a contrast with a very pale green or French grey. Check out this blog for some ideas: http://rockmystyle.co.uk/on-the-fence/ And I would definitely paint the chair a nice bright colour such as bright blue, or pink, or yellow, or purple or....... :-)...See MoreGarden posts dilemma to match fence
Comments (1)I would paint the posts the same colour as the panels. Keeping everything the same colour keeps the look contemporary without drawing too much attention. The fence should be the backdrop to your garden, not the main feature....See MoreE D
