kitchen cupboards with vaulted ceiling

Hi, this had been running through my head for a while and I can't decide what to do.

in our planned new kitchen the ceiling will be vaulted, so on one side the ceiling height is 9ft (this is the side with the window) and the other is 11ft ish. the kitchen will be a U shape, the sink is planned on the window side with low level cabinets only, whilst opposite is the integrated fridge, freezer, ovens and pull out larder.

how high would you the cupboards up? We need lots of storage (doesn't everyone :-)) and don't want to waste space but don't want to over power the room as its about 3.5m wide.

This really would depend on the style of kitchen and the colours used in the space. Seamless cupboards for example can seem far less imposing when they are larger/taller and can give you all the storage you need. There are also lots of ways and types of cupboards you use that are very flexible and accessible.

A modern contemporary kitchen is much easier to be able to achieve this but there are still things that can be done if it is a more traditional space.

The amount of light that bounces around also makes a big difference as to how crowded a space can look and what colours are best to use.

As suggested, a 3D render of the space would really help you see the overall effect and allow you to play around with the space. I offer a package for 3D's like this as I feel it is really important to be able to see and feel the space before you have any work done.

You need to be able to reach the cupboards, unless you add a moving ladder as a feature.

thank you, I had thought of a nice step ladder if necessary. Do you think I would need to put some kind of detail at the top the cupboards to bring it together? Thanks again :-)

Hello Charlie Thanks so much for your really helpful comments. Sadly we have been let down by our builder so it is now on hold for a month or two so do not have anything to send you. Totally agree regards having the same colour palette throughout. It is more where to put the log burner. Originally it was going in the middle of the wall in the vaulted area but I was concerned about that then becoming the focal point and so creating 2 rooms. I then thought of putting it up against one of the small nibs and using the nib as one side of the fireplace but then I thought if we have sofas around it one end of the sofa would be under the vaulted ceiling and one end under the lower ceiling!! So I am now thinking maybe we should leave it where it is ie centrally placed in the vaulted area. You say 'so the size of the furniture here is even more essential that the placement'. What do you mean by that? Should it be on the larger size? Again, thanks so much for your help. I will look you up online! Kind regards Jane Field

our revamped kitchen will have a vaulted ceiling which we wish to light with a light strip (as well as pendant lights). We have used `Phillips hue elsewhere and like the flexibility of this. but not sure we can get this in the length (approx 2m x 4m) and whether there are more appropriate alternatives. many thanks

Be careful going too high in a room that sort of depth - it could end up feeling a bit overpowering ! This is something you really need drawn on CAD so you can see the overall effect before you buy /order anything !

I have just tackled the same issue - the vaulted area of our kitchen is nearly 4m. We have cut the cupboards off at 2.4m and we will need a small step/stool to reach the top cupboard. Originally, we had planned for 3m of cupboards but on reflection felt that it could look like a warehouse - far too many cupboards and not easily accessible either.
