Need new doors!

We live in the Scottish Highlands, we want new doors throughout our house. I would like wooden 4 panel doors which I may or may not paint. I am very picky about wood colours and finishes and hate anything plasticy or fake looking. I also would like stained glass front door and back door. I love Georgian style front doors and I would like to paint Georgian style french doors for a new entry between living room and kitchen. I love brass knobs, colours, style and finishes are all very important but I am struggling to find anything as I trawl the internet. Obviously finding a local joiner or supplier would be great.... Any help appreciated as I feel a bit stuck!

I'd try to make your mind up with regards the painting / not painting. Paying extra for Pine doors 4 or 6 panel is not worth it, if you're going to paint them, then it doesn't matter where you buy them from. However, if you want to have them to fit in with a more antique Georgian theme, the stained glass, brass knobs, then you be better advised to buy reclaimed doors. You will never get the tone of the wood right unless they've aged. Ebay is a great resource for reclaimed doors as are salvage yards.

Many thanks for your help! Have decided to paint them and get cheaper doors, but still unsure as the best place to source them? I have decided to get more expensive front and back doors with stained glass. Finding it hard to find french doors, I want narrower than usual french doors with the grid square or rectangle panes of glass, no curves. Quite happy to buy cheaper to match the other doors in house as they will be painted, would be good to know somewhere I can purchase all the internal doors from? We don't have anywhere local so would need to be at least and hour and a half drive to Inverness or Oban...

Hi. Ikea changed their door sizes, as you probably already know - but the good news is you can order new doors from several places - Jali in Kent will make doors that you can paint ! Or for wood finish doors then a local carpentry co pang should be able to help . There are other companies too - a google search should provide some you could look through !

I think the render is a little clinical which is not giving a very true impression of the property and how the door he's suggesting will look.. that's one thing.. but saying that I still don't think it would look great. As mentioned above, when specifying for my clients, the first thing is budget and I also take into consideration the design inside.. after all this is the 'front', the 'entrance', the 'greeting' to your home. I would take into consideration how much light you need in the space, the colour you will have in the entrance and of course the overall style you want to achieve. Is it just that the white and brown don't seem to compliment each other.. or do you feel that door looks dated? What styles of doors do you like? - there's lots of inspiration on Houzz to get you started.

I think soft green always looks nice with red/brown brick. I’m a bit concerned that your windows do not allow escape in case of a fire as the only opening parts are tiny. This pic below is Little Greene’s Celestial Blue, which looks more green to me! However it may be bit too cottagey?

Do be careful. We have just replaced our upstairs doors with four panel flat panel doors. They were previously cheap hollow things. We went for hardwood veneer because I wanted a more solid feel (and couldn't find the style I wanted in a pine door). However, upon painting them the veneer has lifted. The decorator has said its because they don't anticipate that you'll paint them but that you will stain them or wax them.

This might of course be a load of rubbish to fob me off of course...
